All Things Aviation

Yeah, that place out 'there'. Anything not really Cambodia related should go here.

Thanks for the tip, Freightdog. I gargled steam catapult. Now I'd like to see the nuclear powered version!

Great footage. It reminded me of this time I was chilling out on a grassy hill in Somerset enjoying the evening sun with the girlfriend. This Tornado or similar suddenly seemed to come out of nowhere and flew over not too far up and almost gave me a heart attack.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

Ever get the sinking feeling that you forgot the wing-fold step of your pre flight checklist?

In the 1960’s the Soviet Union explored the M-25 project. The idea was of a low altitude infantry killer - via shock wave, by flying supersonic at 90 to 120 feet above the enemy troops. Project was cancelled in 1973 and finally declassified a few years back.

Steam catapults are nuclear powered. The nuclear reactor boils water into steam that drives the catapults. One of the primary reasons that US aircraft carriers are nuclear powered. That and no need to refuel.

All other aircraft carriers use vertical take off aircraft or sloped ‘jet ski’ decks.

And supposedly the rush of being hurled from zero to flight in a couple of seconds... makes the fighter pilots love their planes more than their wives.

Supposedly the rush of being hurled from zero to flight in a couple of seconds... makes the fighter pilots vomit.
