All Things Aviation

Yeah, that place out 'there'. Anything not really Cambodia related should go here.

Amen.......there were some pretty stunning airframes to come out of Russia during that time.

True, they don't come sexier than the F-14

But strangely enough.....my heart was always set on the A-6 Intruder

Spawned a great book, followed by a not so great movie

These are a few pictures I took at USS Intrepid in June 2004. I tried going there in January a few years before but got chased off by some very stern-looking serviceman. I didn't realize it was only open in the warmer months. Anyway there is an amazing array of aircraft there, as well as a submarine.

My personal favorite era is the cold war....some amazing designs were birthed during that dangerously competitive time.

For the aviation geeks out there:

Thats fascinating. Is there like some kind of giant goddamed spring under that ships deck that boosts the plane off so fast? Im like thinking 10,000 times bigger than the one in a ball point pen.

Of sorts- giggle the steam catapult.
I wonder if the mag version will get going in the nearer future?
