may be a bit of class warfare and the convict heritage there with the rhyming slang which Australia has a wealth of, lots unique to oz, some from mother England.
i kind of like it.

As you will know, many ( most? ) convicts shipped to Oz were Irish.

i bet Ireland has some argot to keep the poms from knowing all.

They grow in dams and other water courses and were great fun to catch with a bit of meat on a string when we were kids where we lived out in the bush.

Gonk had a pet yabbie. It misbehaved with his other marine life (not in a kinky way) so he mutilated it. I worry about Gonk, at times.
