Wild Mushroom Harvest in Ratanakkiri
Wild mushrooms support the nutrition and livelihood of local communities at Lumphat Wildlife Sanctuary
Cambodia News, (Ratanakkiri): In this season, the people of Lumphat district are busy harvesting non-timber forest products, especially wild mushrooms. This year, there are two main kinds of wild mushrooms which were collected by the people in Lumphat Wildlife Sanctuary, Ratanakkiri Province: peacock mushroom and cotton mushroom.
According to the interview with the working group of Natural Life in Cambodia, each citizen can remove 5 to 10 kg of mushrooms depending on their actual situation. People who find plenty of mushrooms can save some for food, but they will sell many of them to local traders for a good price: for 1 kg of mushrooms the seller will get between 5,000 to 12,000 riel.
Natural forest resources play an important role in supporting the lives of our communities, and protecting our forests is protecting the resources that support our livelihood !!!
