My geese are really loud
Re: My geese are really loud
Hi Giblet,
So, so, you got some geese – nice. Lovely, beautiful animals - quite smart, too. We had plenty when I was a child. As you may have found out already, geese are extremely territorial. They protect their home and their owner better than a Doberman. They can become very aggressive (esp. the male ones) and attack easily with widespread wings (that could be a problem if e.g. neighbors children are trying to enter your premises) – careful here. The noise they produce is also purely territorial and NO, you can’t make them shut up – impossible.
Regarding your landlord: whatever he says and whatever form of understanding he shows right now, I’m afraid that this is not his real nature. You know, in most cases Cambodians don’t say what they think but later they will use some lame excuse to either get rid of the geese (or you). I wouldn’t trust the situation. Anyway, I wish you luck with your new feathered friends and that you don't have to give 'em away (or worse).

Und der Haifisch der hat Tränen
Und die laufen vom Gesicht
Doch der Haifisch lebt im Wasser
So die Tränen sieht man nicht
In der Tiefe ist es einsam
Und so manche Träne fliesst
Und so kommt es dass das Wasser
In den Meeren salzig ist
Und die laufen vom Gesicht
Doch der Haifisch lebt im Wasser
So die Tränen sieht man nicht

Agreed, problem is that geese view everything as a danger. Defense mechanism is part of their nature.potty wrote:they are loud, because there is some danger to them.

Re: My geese are really loud
I had a few geese on the farm and they really, really did my head in, so one morning I got up at dawn and axed them (BBQ central).
Sadly some khunts have been around poisoning my dogs (probably as a precursor to getting to my rather large duck/chicken collection), so I might get a couple again as security.
At least my terrier is still alive and about to drop, so should be restocked of mutts soon.

nato used to use them as outer perimeter guards in missile installations.

Re: My geese are really loud
The farm across from the one I grew up on used Canadian geese fur security, they were perfect for the job.

Oh yes, they like to loudly alert me when a sparrow eats some of their food. They are great guards.

What time was that? I wake to the sound of ducks anytime between 5:30 and 7:30 a.m.
