Re: Eastern Rubber Co. Granted License for Cattle Farm in Snoul
This is a good idea in theory but I always wonder about the impacts it will have on the local people.
For cattle you need lots of water and feed. The grasses in Cambodia are not very nourishing for cattle. Then if they are to be cattle raised for meat then modern practices will use feed lots and medications to build weight quickly. The amount of processed feed will impact the roads surrounding the property as well as the transport routes to bring it into the country.
If it is for dairy then most of these same issues will be the same except for more water use and processing the milk, transport again and electricity usage.
The biggest impact will be the effluent produced by these cattle. It has to go somewhere and even if it were dried and sold (?) there is further issues. This piss and poo will be tainted by the injectable growth hormones and will leech into the underground water systems in the area.
not all good ideas can work in every community in every country. I t requires extensive planning and consultation.
