How many fish can I grow? This is one of the first questions most aspiring aquaponists ask. If you are considering growing fish for food, how many you can grow goes right to the heart of a cost/benefit analysis. Just how much can you reduce your family’s grocery bill through aquaponics? The generally accepted rule of thumb for a home, media-based aqua- ponics system is one pound (500 g) of fish for every five to ten gallons (20 to 40 liters) of fish tank water. By comparison, a professionally monitored, mechanically filtered recirculating aquaculture facility will stock as densely as one pound of fish for every one and a half gallons (six liters) of water.

What plants grow best in aquaponics? Actually, I should call this section “what doesn’t grow well in aquaponics?” because we would have a much shorter list. There is only one type of plant that I know of that absolutely does not grow well in aquaponics and that is any plant that requires a pH environment much above or below neutral 7.0. Examples of this are blueberries and azaleas, which prefer acidic soil

I dont know if it is of interest but I have for some time been using this fish waste water from 3 x 240 liter plastic barrels... in the bottom of each I placed a tap ...mounted them on brick piers and filled with a couple 7000riel bags of fish and assorted pond life...when i need to water my plants i use a watering can full of the water from my barrels ..dont need any add fertilizer..I do tend to rotate the plants in order of which one gets watered first as the first can full has the most nutriments ....i spend around 7000riel on fish food every 2 months...

give it a try low tech but similar principles at work as the more hi-tech...carrying water makes you strong...

Takamao has two shops, one just before the road forks at the government buildings, on the right hand side. The boss who is there occasionally is the full bottle, he is some sort of lecturer.
The other shop is on 21 next to the bakery on the right hand side.
Neither of these shops has anything like the stuff available in Thailand , it's all pretty amateurish. But they do have nutrients and meters so one can grow OK.

So is the aquaponics project up and running yet, and if so what fish type are you using?
