SIEM REAP, Cambodia, June 9, 2022 /PRNewswire/ -- Drone technology has been recently introduced in Cambodia's cassava cultivations to help small-scale farmers earn better yield while bringing down the costs of farm input. Cassava is the most important agro-industrial crop in Cambodia that provides employment and livelihood to thousands of rural workers. Supporting the national cassava policy, XAG delivers new energy to this sector with its agricultural drones that can use less water and chemical and ease the workload on farm.

Broadly grown on over 600 thousand hectares of farmland in Cambodia, Cassava covers the second largest planting area after the rice paddy and contributes to 4% of GDP growth. However, the tradition of cassava farming involves intensive labour and time-consuming process. To meet the growing demand of cassava-based products including food, flour, paper and alcohol, Cambodian farmers have rapidly expanded their planting areas and started applying XAG's agricultural drones for productivity boom.

A Senior Official Says Cassava Prices in Preah Vihear Are Good
AKP Phnom Penh, February 18, 2023 --
Cassava prices in Preah Vihear province this year are very good, Director of Preah Vihear provincial Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Mr. Poeung Tryda told the Agence Kampuchea Presse (AKP).

"So far, the price of dried cassava is more than KHR 900 per kilogramme, while fresh cassava is between KHR 370 and KHR 420 per kilogramme," he pointed out.

Mr. Poeung Tryda said in some places in the province, cassava can be sold at KHR 930 or even KHR 950 per kilogramme and if it is very well dry, the farmers can get up to KHR 960 per kilogramme.

Cassava prices are very good this year compared to the past ten years, he continued, adding that local farmers are very happy with the high prices as cassava yields can reach from 10 tonnes to 50 tonnes per hectare.

Thai and Vietnamese traders came down to collect cassava yields, the director said.

For next year, Mr. Poeung Tryda predicted, the price of cassava will rise further, especially when oil prices continue to rise, because cassava can also be processed into ethanol besides food.

Cassava is an agro-industrial crop grown by people in Preah Vihear province on an area of about 32,000 hectares.
