There are several facilities around Cambodia for drying and packing mangos
Thanks, yeah, I'd like to know more about those facilities. I think it was a few years ago that they first ones were being set up.

Thanks Truffle Dog, I often think that it's such a great opportunity for Cambodia to process the mangoes as there seems to be such a surplus. But then I wonder if there isn't some logical explanation, such as that other countries have economies of scale, or that exporting from Cambodia is too difficult.

Srey Mom told me there is such a big demand for Mango Chutney that it is impossible to find on supermarket shelves. Time to start making our own for export.

Feature: Cambodians get better income as more mangoes enter Chinese market
(Xinhua) 11:16, March 08, 2023
KAMPONG SPEU, Cambodia,
[excerpt]
Reth Songheng, chief administrative officer of the Zhong Bao (Cambodia) Food Science &Technology Co., Ltd., said the mango products factory provides jobs for more than 800 locals, producing dried mangoes for the Chinese market.

"Our products are high in quality and are very popular in China," he told Xinhua, adding that the factory purchased high-quality ripe mangoes from brokers and farmers for processing them into dried mangoes.

Songheng said the factory exported a total of 2,800 tons of dried mangoes to China in 2022, a year-on-year increase of between 10 and 20 percent.

"For 2023, the factory has planned to produce a total of 4,200 tons because there is a sharp increase in purchase orders from Chinese buyers," he said.

Songheng attributed the export growth to the RCEP and the CCFTA, saying that both FTAs helped reduce tariff costs, giving the factory a greater possibility to expand its production to meet the demand in the Chinese market.

"These FTAs, I think, will give a boost to Cambodia-China economic cooperation," he said.

Cambodian Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Dith Tina said Cambodia and China have solid agricultural cooperation and that Cambodia has exported rice, mangoes, bananas, and longan fruit, among others to China.

He noted the RCEP and the CCFTA have injected a new impetus into the development of Cambodia's agriculture.

"Both FTAs will contribute not only to the agriculture sector's growth, but also to the farmers' welfare and prosperity," he told Xinhua.

I hope that the farmers get a fair price for their ripe mangoes and the factory workers a fair wage. Otherwise only chinese pockets will be filled.

Mango (Mangifera indica) is a stone fruit with a fibrous outer skin, a fleshy edible inside, and a large seed in the middle. It is native to India and Southeast Asia.

Benefits of Eating Mangoes
Mangoes are rich in vitamins, minerals, and other beneficial plant compounds. These nutrients may help protect against cell damage, improve sexual health, support immunity, and more.

Parts of a mango tree, such as the fruit pulp, extracts of fruit kernel, leaves, and stem bark, have been utilized in traditional medicine to treat diarrhea, bleeding hemorrhoids, and various bacterial infections.

Mangoes are often considered a superfood because they are packed with various nutrients that support the body.

One cup of fresh mango pieces provides the following nutrients:3

Calories: 99
Protein: 1.4 grams (g)
Fat: 0.6 g
Carbohydrates: 24.8 g
Fiber: 2.6 g
Sugar: 22.6 g
Vitamin A: 10% of the Daily Value (DV)
Vitamin B6: 12% of the DV
Vitamin C: 67% of the DV
Vitamin E: 10% of the DV
Copper: 20% of the DV
Folate: 18% of the DV
Niacin: 7% of the DV
Potassium: 6% of the DV

Low in calories, mango is an excellent source of vitamin C, providing 67% of the DV. This water-soluble vitamin keeps your immune system healthy, helps your body absorb iron, and supports collagen formation.

Mangoes are also high in copper, which is needed to produce energy, connective tissue, and red blood cells.Folate plays a crucial role in DNA production and cell division and is especially important during pregnancy as it supports proper fetal development.

In one study, mango consumers had lower intakes of cholesterol, sodium, and added sugar and higher intakes of many essential nutrients, including vitamins A, C, and E, folate (vitamin B9), and fiber.2

Chinese aren’t interested in giving a fair wage. These are Chinese, not Khmer Chinese who have been living in Cambodia for generations and have integrated into society.

What they are forced to pay, they will pay.

What makes you believe Sino-Khmers are any better? They didn't come to dominate commerce here by being kind.

They are Khmer through generations of marriage. May have lighter skin, be merchants, or high businesses, celebrate Chinese New Year, but are Khmer. More likely to empathize with their fellow Khmer and give them a fair wage.

Chinese see Khmer as not Chinese. No reason to give them fair anything and just line pockets.

My opinions, of course.
