Re: Big demand for Keo Romeat mangoes by Thai fruit processors.
It's even worse thst that it seems because this guy pretty much runs thw whole show here. Mong the man is/ owns the Kingdom’s largest agro-industrial conglomerate. So we're talking more than just mangoes here. Avaiable from one if his outlets in PP for a very reasonable $6 per kg.cambo swa wrote: ↑Mon Jul 03, 2017 3:21 am Being held down by inability to even understand the basics of international trade and export requirements. Just plain ignorance of the facts (maybe not stupidity, ignorance made worse by laziness). Here you have the "President" of the Kampong Speu mango growers association stating that the impediment to exporting mango to Korea is the lack of facilities/equipment to kill bacteria on the fruit. No, the requirement to export mango to Korea or in the future any other country is the ability to provide the vapor heat treatment (hot water) process to assure there are no insect pests being exported with the fruit, to include the mango seed weevil and fruit flies. It has nothing to do with bacteria. So, they will continue to sell their mangos here for 1000 riel/kg while Koreans and Japanese are paying $7-$9 USD each. What can be done?
More mangoes going to France under deal
29 Jun, 2017 Post Staff
Mong Reththy Group (MRG), the Kingdom’s largest agro-industrial conglomerate, has secured a deal to export additional volumes of locally grown mangoes to France, the company announced yesterday on its Facebook page.
Mong Reththy, chairman of MRG, concluded the deal with an unnamed company during a visit to Paris, according to the posting, which indicated the group has agreed to ship an extra 500 tonnes of mangoes to France in 2017 and 2018. French buyers also expressed intention to import Cambodian durian and rambutan, it added.

Re: Big demand for Keo Romeat mangoes by Thai fruit processors.
in order to solve this problem of agri commodities prices unfairly suppressed by the middleman, khmers should learn how to "upgrade" their products, for example make mangoes into dried mangoes, mangoes jam, mangoes smoothies concerntrate, mangoes extract, the list goes on and for other commodities as well like cassava or rice etc
in the 70s or 80s when USA had a surplus of corn, they looked into how to make their commodities "wanted" so now we have high fructose corn syrup in almost every fucking thing imaginable
the problem is that khmers lacked the resources, willingness and determination to learn something new and stick to it, so they could only play the poor farmer role while other reaped all the profits.

"The Royal Group, based in Phnom Penh, is Cambodia's largest diversified conglomerate and holding company with investments in various industries in the country including telecommunication, media, banking, insurance, resorts, education, property, trading and agriculture
Various industries? Sounds like every industry.
Then there's the Mony Reththy group and his role in the senate aligned to the CPP of course.

Re: Big demand for Keo Romeat mangoes by Thai fruit processors.
A large volume of Cambodia's fresh mangoes are being delivered to Thailand's fruit processing plants from where it is bound to be re-exported.
Hundreds of tons of Keo Romeat mangoes are exported to Thailand daily from Kampong Speu in central Cambodia and northwestern Battambang via Pong Namron border crossing in the eastern Thai province of Chantaburi, Vudhipong Ratanamon, head of Trat province's Agricultural Cooperatives for Processed Fruits and Export, said on Friday.
Most of the fresh Cambodian mangoes are processed in Thailand as a dried or sugar-coated fruit bound for export to China, South Korea and other Asian markets, Vudhipong said.

Keo Romeat Mango Market up but production down
Phnom Penh:
Demand of Keo Romeat mangoes has increased rapidly recently to neighboring countries such as Thailand and Vietnam. This particular mango names Keo Romeat means turmeric-liked due to its bright yellow and rich in taste.
However, the productivity of this mango this year has decreased. Mr. Nup Vannak, the merchandiser said that he could sell 2 to 3 times a year by purchasing the mangoes from the farmers across Kompong Speu Province which costed 800 Riel and retails price was approximately 12 to 13 Baht about 1200 to 1300 Riel in case the mangoes were in medium quality and if it was a good quality, the price of wholesale would be 3000 to 3500 Riel.
According to Phalla, the farmer in Kompong Speu said that she harvested 3 to 5 tons of mangoes out of 100 trees per year and sold 1500 to 2500 Riel per kilogram, but this time around the productivity was low and the price has dropped.

Re: Big demand for Keo Romeat mangoes by Thai fruit processors.
Another optimistic announcement on the future of mango exports to South Korea.
South Korea to Import Cambodian Mangoes Next Year, Fruit Farmers Hope for a Rise in Prices.
Wed Dec 13, 2017
Since South Korea's announcement of its intention to import mangoes from Cambodia next year, the domestic fruit growers have been quite excited.
Eng Chai Wan, chairman of the Mango Association in Kampong Speu Province, said that Cambodian exports of mango could reach up to about 1 million tons a year, mainly to Thailand, Vietnam and China.
He said South Korea will become Cambodia's latest export market and will import 20,000 tons of mango annually.
He added that China, Thailand and Vietnam are Cambodia's largest export markets. However, these countries have not yet allowed Cambodia to directly export, of which exports to China must go through a third country.
He hoped that Cambodia would be able to export directly to China because China is the largest market in Cambodia and the demand is also huge.
He pointed out that Thailand or Vietnam have an oversupply of mangoes and that these countries would not acquire Cambodian mangoes, causing domestic mango prices in Cambodia to plummet.
