locals use it for medicine rather than food- price is on par with what beekeepers are paid in the developed world
seems strange to look at a plastic 10L jerrycan of honey and see $250
but, it is! and the market comes to you actively seeking the product.
the season for production is short from october to may,
you have to feed them after that.

Have you ever been to Tulum Mexico FLB? The later Mayans used honey medicinal and in their ceremonies, this was their bee temple that would of had bee sculptures in the reliefs. Interesting thread :beer3:

Whats the main source of the honey in Cambodia? I know bees gather honey from the flowers, or fruits that flower. Does it have enough flowers here?? Also where do you get the medicine for the bees when they get sick especially during the raining season? And where do you buy the wax to make the starting frame for honey gathering?

Bumping this thread up with an item taken from Arey News, about a young man who is making a good living through bee-keeping and hard work.

Cambodia News, (Siem Reap Province): Recently, in Banteay Srei district, Siem Reap province, we have seen an increase in the agricultural sector, especially vegetable growing and animal husbandry. One successful enterprise involves a young man who has started a beekeeping business.

Mr. Ly Hour, a resident of Khnar Sanday commune, Banteay Srei district, Siem Reap province, confirmed on February 12, 2021 that he had been raising bees with his uncle in Ratanakkiri province for four years. After gaining proficiency in beekeeping, he decided to return to his hometown with 100 beekeeping containers for the first step.

He says that raising bees is much easier than raising animals and growing other crops, with the first beekeeping of beeswax purchased from previous breeders. He continued that for Banteay Srei district, this is a good place to raise bees because there are both wild flowers and cultivated flowers for bees to pollinate.

Mr. Ly Hour explained that for his beekeeping work, there are two seasons: in the dry season from January to May, he raises bees for honey. From June to September, he raises bees and sells them. For the product obtained from 100 bees, he can collect 15 cans of honey three times a month, equivalent to 450 liters, and the selling price to the market is 100,000 riels per liter. But the wholesale price can be different depending on the negotiation, so he is earning more than $ 5,000 a month from selling his honey.
