20,000 Hectares of Rice Fields Affected by Floods, 3,000 Hectares Destroyed
07/08/18 19:07
Phnom Penh (FN), August 6 - A senior official at the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries said on Monday that flooding in Cambodia's Stung Treng, Kratie, Kampong Cham and Tbong Khmum this rainy season has affected 20,000 hectares of rice fields, of which 3,000 hectares were completely destroyed.

"The flood does not seriously harm farmers' rice fields. Eventhough the impact is higher, the damage is minimal", said Hean Vanhan, director-general of the General Department of Agriculture.

He said that the flood does not affect Cambodian rice exports to foreign countries.

The decline in rice export figures for the last three months is not caused by floods, but due to harvest, making the rice out of stock.

Cambodia's rice export slightly drops last year
2019-01-10 23:16:40
PHNOM PENH, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia exported 626,225 tons of milled rice in 2018, a decrease of 1.5 percent over a year earlier, according to an official report released on Thursday.

Roughly 87 firms have brokered the country's rice for 61 countries and regions across the world last year, said the report from the Secretariat of One Window Service for Rice Export.

China is the biggest buyer of Cambodian rice, followed by France, Malaysia, Gabon, the Netherlands, and Vietnam, it said.

Cambodia shipped 170,154 tons of milled rice to China in 2018, down 14.8 percent year-on-year, said the report, adding that Chinese market absorbed 27.1 percent of Cambodia's total rice export.

I guess there was no need to ship that 14.8 percent overseas to China. They ate it here in Cambodia.
