Yes, Thailand, you will be able to smoke potent weed at home

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

The company revealed that more than 2,250 shops are directly managing their listings, ensuring the accuracy of the data provided. This interactive tool enables users to explore the latest developments and trends in the Thai cannabis market. As the industry continues to evolve, WEED.TH plans to track and release additional information.
Holy shit! 2,250 shops and thats just whats registered on this website. I just looked it up and the whole Netherlands only has around 500-600 coffee shops

Very excited for any studies coming out that will show the effect this has on tourism...
I doubt any at all:

People wont travel to Thailand to smoke weed ( its cheaper elsewhere)
NOR will people stop drinking and switch to smoking weed.
NOR will tourists all of a sudden become weed smokers.
All it does it make it easier and more relaxing to light one up at home.

I seriously doubt that 12 weed shops in Kamala will survive the long low season, Thais and local expats wont pay such high prices and many that were smoking before, will buy from their sources
same goes for Patong and the rest of the shops around the island, ( we even have a weed stall at out local Big C)
In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

Sorry but you're clearly basing that off your own perspective, which is why I am so curious for some actual cold hard figures and stats.
Let me tell you as a long time weed smoker what I saw in Thailand will (from MY perspective) have an impact on Tourism once word spreads around. It will make a lot of people choose Thailand over similar destinations in the area, or even South America for that matter. Nobody wants to get arrested, robbed or scammed on their holiday so having legal shops that sell over the counter with a vast selection of high grade bud will be very attractive and will weight much bigger on peoples decision than the pricing. Plus other factors like being able to blaze up on the beach, the jungle etc. which most other countries that you can buy legally don't have.

u have ur opinion of course< it has already spread around the world its available here> I live here and see the effects of all this legal weed 1st hand an have been smoking weed for a long time as well . ( here as well)

90% of people are NOT going to choose to vacation in Thailand cause weed is legal, ( an you can NOT legally smoke in public places or on the beach)

Do you think weed smokers are heading in droves to Portugal cause weed and other drugs are legal there>? what kind of cold hard figures are u expecting? a questionnaire asking if people are smoking weed on Thailand on their vacation??
LOL

I know a few owners of shop's & grows and they are not making the kind of money they thought they would and some expect to close up with the low season here>

Sorry, but ur perception is not based on reality here

Doesn't look good for weed in Thailand
elections this weekend
After four years of support from the ruling coalition government, Thailand is expected to vote against the decriminalisation of marijuana in Sunday’s general election. The current free-for-all and weed shops lining the busy tourist streets appears unlikely to continue in the months after the election and a new parliament is settled.

Almost all of the political parties involved in the 2023 national election are in favour of returning to the previous policies of marijuana prohibition and confining its use to medicinal purposes only. Only one party is still seeking some sort of policy that would allow and regulate recreational use.

The changes in policies comes amid rising concerns over the negative societal impact of an open-slather approach to cannabis use. The decriminalisation has also been botched by a lack of details, leading to a legal vacuum, with no regulations in place covering the recreational use of the drug in Thailand.
As the original supporter, Thailand’s public health minister Anutin Charnvirakul, has said often since last year’s decriminalisation, “that was never the intention” of the change in the law. Some enthusiasts claim that “it’s too late” and that it will be impossible to “get the toothpaste back in the tube”. But without any legal framework supporting the current wild-west approach to the herb, it’s unlikely that any ongoing free-for-all would be supported by any political party.

If it's illegal to smoke publicly you wouldn't know it here in Thailand's tourist ghetto as people smoke joints casually on the street, in cafes and restaurants, at guesthouses... the sweet scent of the devil's lettuce wafting fragrantly through the streets with the omnipresence of fumes from an old Bangkok bus.

The open use and sale of pot has been a positive change to the tourist zone.

I've been staying just outside the Koasan Rd area this last month and spend time every day/night on Soi Rambutri. Myself and other old timers I've spoken with who've been coming through here over the decades have noticed a reduction in stumbling drunks and drunk loutish behavior which was once not uncommon, many of us believing the open use and sale of pot contributing to this decline. I hope Thailand's tourist ghetto is allowed to retain its pot smoking freedom as the place is better for it.

Was in Chiang Mai last month and saw tons of weed shops up and down the streets. I wonder if the market is big enough to support all of them.

Also saw signs in the bars forbidding the smoking of weed.

And I got searched coming back into Japan.

I made a road trip from Cambodia to the Golden Triangle and back. In every bigger town you have at least one shop selling the herb. Even the BigC, Lotus, Macro & co are selling cosmetics with hemp. It looks like someone has pulled the plug out of a well shaken Champagne bottle. However, as it is with the bottle, this will not continue with full force forever, so I think after the big, initial wave, things will start to normalize pretty soon
Driving on Cambodian roads is just like playing a classic arcade top scroller. The only difference is a force feedback controller, the limitation to only one life and the inability to restart, once Game Over

yes, smoke all you want at home (medicinally, of course). But do not export in super obvious (and probably smelly), poorly wrapped bricks:
