Probably thanks to that expat who was incarcerated, learned Thai and Thai law and started suing left and right to force the prisons and the entire prison system to actually follow the law.

He talked about having a cockroach farm under the floorboard. There was some other prisoner who had a boil or something full of some sort of bugs. Cockroaches don't live in bodies. I think the whole book was full of exaggerations.Username Taken wrote: ↑Sun Dec 13, 2020 4:48 pm ^^^ Can't recall the eating of cockroaches, but I think that one of the prisoners had a cockroach farm in his ear.
Fellows got out eventually, but Paul Hayward the rugby player died in prison.

Watched a few of these when stuck in Australia good show's most people did the drug run more than once , some managed to escape, why they didn't get hounded to return amazed mexandreu wrote: ↑Sun Dec 13, 2020 3:09 pm There is a good series called 'Banged up abroad ' (UK version) - 'Locked up abroad' (Elsewhere, but same program) which is based on people telling their real-life stories of being caught for various crimes, more often than not as drug mules, in foreign lands. Asia and specifically Thailand features quite a lot in it.
Pretty fascinating I thought. The ones on YouTube all seem to be corrupted in some way. Probably better to download over torrent or something.

A lot depends on the prison you are incarcerated in. I'm sure I would rather be in prison in Thailand than in the UK or the USA better food nicer people for a start

Sure, I've heard this idea thrown about a lot. I'm not sure how well it would work out. All the prisons in the region are notoriously overcrowded these days. Mostly with drug traffickers but also those guys you read about who chopped their brother in law's neck out when they had a drunken argument about coconuts. As a foreigner you might get put in a different wing, but unless you have money coming in it to buy better conditions it could be rough. Imagine 40 dirty guys trying to sleep on your living room floor. Some of them have mental problems and many have bad attitudes. There's a squat toilet in the corner or just a hole in the ground or a bucket. You have to sleep on a mat with some guy who has chronic Tuberculosis coughing all over you. Scabies and fleas and bed bugs are rampant. If you can't pay for food you gradually starve on the rotten gruel. Some people manage okay though, I wouldn't want to be in prison anywhere.
