Which SIM?

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

Which SIM?

Post by Otis »

I'm going to Thailand for about 1 month. I have a plain Nokia Stupid phone. I do only calls and almost no texting. What's the best/cheapest SIM Card for me?

My advice is to just go into 7 Eleven and check what they have.

I think I paid about 100 Baht for a SIM the last time because we wanted 3G, but they had even cheaper ones.

Depends on the 7/11. A lot of them do sell SIM cards.

Many phone shops sell SIMs with included credit but when you stick the card in a phone you find the credit has already been used or is about to expire. So don't make "free"/included credit part of your selection process.

AIS works everywhere I've been in Thailand but their 3G coverage doesn't include Koh Tao. Dunno about Koh Phangan and Koh Samui. It's also a lot more expensive than mobile Internet in Cambodia.

I bought one as recently as December at one in Bangkok.

I think the first place I stopped only had the tourist ones in stock, and I took 5 steps across the street and walked into another 7 Eleven which had a choice of at least 2 different kinds.

Waaaaaaaaaay more expensive. With Smart pre-pay I get 2.5 gig 3g for $5 valid for up to 30 days. I think you can get 3 gigs with Cellcard for the same money. I hardly ever make voice calls so don't really care what they cost.
