What is the general chatter amongst travellers in Cambodia
What is the general chatter amongst travellers in Cambodia
Apart from the scandal of more than one murders in Kho Tao we now have this latest one in Koh Samui.
I would just be curious to know what is the perception amongst travellers passing through Cambodia these days regarding how they see Thailand in terms of personal safety?
In my mind it’s not just the number of killings of tourists that is now beyond a joke but it’s the pathetic handling of the crime by the Royal Thai police. I mean at this rate Cambodia will be able to claim it offers a safer environment for travellers

Re: What is the general chatter amongst travellers in Cambod
Is it a case of more killings of tourists by Thai men lately, or is it that many previous incidents were more competently covered up and kept out of the media? Perhaps some of the old police protection arrangements of well-connected Thais have been severed since the junta took over, but new ones have been implemented for Thai Army cronies instead? A few years ago, details of such incriminating CCTV footage would never be made public.

Maybe. But this statement in the Guardian in November is terribly incriminating
" In the last 12 months 362 Britons died in Thailand, more than did so in France, which attracts nearly 20 times more British tourists. "

Re: What is the general chatter amongst travellers in Cambod
We are talking specifically about killings, not all deaths. Plus that is comparing expats with tourists. I would bet 90% of the British dead in Thailand are not tourists, but long-term elderly expats and retirees who moved to Thailand for the climate and lower cost of living. British tourists go to France for a couple weeks. Not near as many British retirees can afford to or choose to retire in France these days. Of the other 10% of mortalities, chalk most of that up to the deadly vehicle traffic situation and less quality emergency health care availability. The rest has more to do with the quality of tourist going to Thailand and their chosen behavior and lifestyle choices that aren't as readily available or affordable in France.obelisks wrote: Maybe. old people die fact of life
i know 3 brits that died last year here in phuket 1 was old, one had cancer, one in a motorcycle accident
they would have died where ever they were ( except for the accident) an i know they considered themselves lucky to be here rather than back in the uk
Stats do not always tell the truth as can be very skewed.
to me living here its same ole same ole
Not any different from previous years in murders...

In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST
