What's a decent monthly wage for Bangkok?

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

What's a decent monthly wage for Bangkok?

Post by hatchelt »

Hello!

Just looking around Linkedin and seen a number of jobs which are exactly what I'm doing at the moment, with one showing a monthly salary of 61,433 Baht...is that any good? I've been so focused on Cambodia that I haven't done much research on living in Thailand, but I'm guessing my normal day-to-day budget if I lived out there would be somewhat different to my, uh, two weeks with the lads holiday budget...

In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

Crikey, those prices have gone up a bit. I could swear I met a teacher about seven years ago that was paying $150 in the center with a pool and gym in the building. He said he was paying $250 for a studio though when he first arrived to teach.
I thought you were always going on about how cheap the rents were compared to Cambodia.
$880 is not cheap for a one bedroom.
See crook!!!

When I lived in Pattaya 5 years ago, I rented an unfurnished apartment for 2.900baht. I moved up to Kalasin where the furnished apartment cost me 2.700baht. A month ago I visited my friend in Bangkok, her one bedroom apartment cost her 4.5 million baht to buy.
Always "hope" but never "expect".

Just looking around various letting agencies, I think I could find somewhere for around 20,000/25,000. 3k on utilities, 1-2 on transport, 2 on the gym...750 on chicken, 200 on rice, I think it could work :D
