Various farang beat-downs in Pattaya

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

Various farang beat-downs in Pattaya

Post by Soi Dog »

Soi Buakow seems to be the scene of quite a bit of violence in the Pattaya news lately. Another three-on-one whitey beating.
British man assaulted outside Convenience Store in Central Pattaya
06 April, 2015

Image

In the early hours of Saturday a 35 year old British man, who was described by Police as intoxicated, was assaulted by a group of 3 Thai males, outside of a 24 hour convenience store in Central Pattaya.

Police were called to the store located in Soi Buakhao, just before 3.30am on Saturday and met with Mr. Lee Hontington who had sustained a head injury and facial cuts and bruises consistent with details of the assault he gave to Police.

Officers also spoke with the cashier of the convenience store who revealed how the man entered the store and begged for help. Moments later he was dragged outside of the shop and set-upon by the 3 young Thai men.

Police are checking security cameras in the area but have received few details from the victim as to the motive behind the attack. The investigation continues but for now the attackers remain at-large.

Looks like this Pole got hit with a pole....or a hook rather. It's open season on whiteys there lately. Admittedly, they might have both deserved a good stomping.

Polish man assaulted by Pattaya Go-Go Bar Security Guards
07 April, 2015
In the early hours of Monday a 55 year old Polish man was injured during an altercation with two Security Guards at a Walking Street Go-Go Bar which is now facing the possibility of receiving a temporary closure order of at-least 30 days.

The incident occurred at the newly-opened Skyfall Go-Go Bar located at the Northern end of Walking Street and was reported to Tourist Police by Mr. Rafal Jakowicki who was treated by medics for a deep laceration to his forehead.

Tourist Police Officers detained the two Security Guards alleged to be involved in the incident, Khun Egapon aged 28 and Khun Panu aged 33, who were later taken to Pattaya Police Station and one of them was charged with assault.

The pair claimed that the Polish customer was asked to leave the bar and refused to leave. The Guards claimed he was drunk and abusive and initiated a fight with Khun Panu. Khun Egapon ran inside to assist his colleague and eventually the man was taken outside where he was reportedly struck across the head with a steel hook by Khun Panu who was later charged with assault.

Incidents of violence involving Tourists are taken very seriously by Police and on Monday Night the Tourist Police conducted a raid of Skyfall and conducted ID card checks and some staff members were urine tested but no evidence of drug-taking was found. License checks were made and no irregularities were found.

In previous cases similar to this one bars have been given closure orders of at least 30 days and a report of this incident has been sent to the Licensing Unit at the Banglamung District Office who may decide to act further and close the venue for a period of time.

It's not just lately. It's been like that for years. I only went to Pattaya once ten years ago, and I don't remember Soi Buakhow, but I see the name of the street endlessly when reading news of violence in Pattaya.

It must be the Pattaya version of Street 51.

I'll lump Indians in with "farangs" for this thread.

Indian Tourist assaulted and robbed on Pattaya Beach
09 April, 2015
A 50 year old Indian Tourist, who was earlier seen staggering along Pattaya Beach Road, as if he was drunk, was assaulted and then robbed by a gang of youths who are known to target vulnerable foreigners in the area.

In the early hours of Thursday, Police and medics were called to the Pattaya Beach Road promenade only meters away from Pattaya Police Station and met with the injured tourist, Mr. Narander Rajoo, who had sustained a head injury.

Khun Wipada aged 35, witnessed the attack and told Police she was walking behind the victim and saw he was staggering and appeared heavily intoxicated. Moments later a group of 5 young Thai men approached Mr. Rajoo and used pieces of wood to strike him over the head. He fell to the ground and the gang proceeded to steal 50,000 Baht and 2,500 US Dollars from his trouser pockets.

Police think they know who assaulted Mr. Rajoo, they are thought to be members of a well-known gang called “Deen Dor” who are a collection of young Thai males who target vulnerable foreign tourists on Pattaya Beach and normally assault and then rob them of their possessions.

Police are hopeful of making an arrest in this case shortly. Mr. Rajoo was sent to Hospital and was released one hour later.

Update to the first story of this thread. The bloody Brit in the photo had it coming, apparently.
Story behind assault on Englishman revealed as 3 suspects arrested by Pattaya Police
09 April, 2015
The full details of the assault on a 35 year old British Man in front of a convenience store in Central Pattaya last Saturday Morning, have now emerged following the arrest of three Thai men who are suspected of conducting the attack.
Image
A press conference was held at Pattaya Police Station on Wednesday afternoon by the station Chief, Police Colonel Sukthat, who announced the arrest of Khun Biyalat aged 26, Khun Batipan aged 28 and Khun Pattana aged 24 who are accused of assaulting Mr. Lee Huntingdon outside of the convenience store located in Soi Buakhao.

However, Mr. Huntingdon himself is the subject of a Police Investigation as a 32 year old Thai Woman, Khun Tida, has formally reported him for indecently touching her prior to the attack, which was conducted by her brother and two of his friends.

She claims that she was walking along the street with her boyfriend, Mr. Mika Sauren aged 44 from Finland, when Mr. Huntingdon approached her and touched her inappropriately. He was described as being in an intoxicated state but the incident angered Mr. Sauren who approached the Brit. A fight between the pair began and it was claimed that Mr. Huntingdon threw the first punch.

Khun Tida called her brother to come and held and he arrived with the two other Thai men and attempted to break up the fight. Although the fighting stopped, as Mr. Huntingdon was walking away and into the store, he shouted profanities at the Thai men who dragged him out of the store and assaulted him.

The Thai men have been charged with assault and Mr. Huntingdon is currently under investigation relating to the allegations made against him by Khun Tida.

Poor old indian guys. BTW why did he carry so much money with him if he knew that he is drunking. It seems like Pattaya is not a safe place to visit especially when you are a foreigner.

Stumble around obviously drunk in the wee hours with a pocket full of cash and you will pretty much get yourself in trouble in most places on the planet. That probably is true for locals and foreigner alike.

But Pattaya has always had its share of ne'er do wells, both thai and foreign. Not sure if crime is getting worse there or just more reporting of such crime.

So if i happen to visit Thailand one day. Should i go visit Pattaya or just skip it and go further to Southern Thailand like Puket?

Pattaya is pretty much "vice city" with a mix of drink, drugs and prostitution thrown in. It does attract it's share of idiots, losers and thugs. Not much natural beauty. That doesn't mean you can't have fun and feel safe there. If you've never been there it will be an eye opener for you. But if you only want a pleasant, relaxing vacation with nice scenery, Pattaya won't fit the bill.

I should say that Pattaya seems to have a strong youth gang culture, judging by the local news stories I read. Groups of Thai boys violently attack each other on a regular basis. If you were to be mistaken for a Thai teen, you might find yourself set upon by such a gang. It's not very common that those youth gangs attack non-Thais or tourists, but like that Indian man, it can happen if you are in the wrong place at the wrong time.
