Unrest in the Thai South hits Songkhla, again

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

Unrest in the Thai South hits Songkhla, again

Post by Rutiger »

No end in sight to the bloodbath in the south of Thailand. Relatively peaceful Songkhla has been hit repeatedly lately. Increasing attacks against civilian targets, too.
1 killed, 10 injured by Songkhla motorcycle bomb
19 Apr 2016
SONGKHLA - A man was killed and 11 others, including a child, were injured in a bomb attack in Thepha district at about 7pm Tuesday.

It was the second deadly attack in Songkhla province in a week.

Police said the killer bomb Wednesday evening was hidden in a motorcycle parked behind the Thepha train station.

About 30 minutes before the bomb exploded, police were informed about a suspicious object attached to a mobile phone inside a grocery store, near the train station. The motorcycle bomb went off after officers arrived at the store.

The man killed in the blast was identified as Chom Phetchamras. He died in hospital.

Reports on social media said the child injured was an 11-year-old girl.

It was the second bomb in Songkhla province in nine days. A bomb attack just before Songkran inChana district killed a policeman and wounded another officer on April 11.

Separatists in the deep South claim the three southernmost provinces of Narathiwat, Pattani and Yala, as well as half of Songkhla, were taken and occupied illegally from the Malayan king in the early 20th century.

In the first and second major uprisings in the 1960s and 1970s, they staged many attacks in Songkhla, including in the province's major city, Hat Yai, the largest in the South.

The third uprising, which began in January, 2004, has centred mainly on the three southern provinces, but there have been major attacks on Hat Yai and other Songkhla sites as well.

If the Thais could swallow their pride, and just hand it back..but no, cannot lose face.

Sailorman, the religion is not the problem. It's the opportunist nutters practising it and using it for political ends. I'm sooo proud the Jews and the Christians never did that, LOL.

Yeah, tell me about all the Jewish and Christian terror attacks in the last decade. Oh wait, it's always Islam.

Philippines, China, Russia, Thailand... all separatist movements with a single base problem; Muslims can't get along with anyone else.

Who said it should be limited to the last decade? You believe in evolution but deny the theory that each species develops within its own environment?

You funny.

And seriously, if you look at world history to date, other religions rule when it comes to murder figures.

This is a phase every monotheistic religion has gone through. To label one because it suits you is a joke. Read more.

And phuket, tell us about the Roman Catholics and Christians, the various Jewish sects and the bloody fight for supremacy..

Your deliberate silence is very telling.
