Uninsured Brit on a moto hit by car faces massive medical bills

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

All Thai vehicles have compulsory 3rd party insurance.

Interested to know if its expected they will pay out, or the reason/s they wont ?

If the same happened in the UK. No licence, or no insurance, would you be intituled to a pay-out. I would think you in this case would be liable.
Always "hope" but never "expect".

Depends on your type of card, but most Visa and Mastercards issued in Europe have this insurance automatically included when you buy air tickets. Good for 90 days travel I think.(Except maybe for travel to the US, because healthcare is so expensive.)
This is no good for expats, but how many gofundme tourists from the UK are insured through the credit card payment of their plane ticket for serious accidents, but are unaware of this ?
Why would it be no good for expats? It also works on the other way round. My wife is currently visiting relatives in the USA with one of our daughters and I made sure to book their tickets with the most comprehensive travel insurance included Visa card at my disposal. Same goes when we travel to Europe.

I’m a bit confused.
Are those white marks scratch marks? How come the bike is behind? Is it where he ended up? Where’s the debris?

Confused.

I'm guessing the accident happened up near the blue U-turn sign. You can see the car back there.
Bike gets hit (maybe he was doing a U-turn), guy is dislodged from the bike, bike slides backwards due to the force of impact.

Good point. What I meant was that the card insurance is only good for short trips because the time limit is 90 days outside your country of residence.

That’s quite a shunt.
