Two Burmese men sentenced to death for killing British tourists in Thailand
I would be seriously embarrassed to have to admit that I lived in a country of this magnitude of scumminess, especially anywhere in the South and any of those islands.

Not sure what's up with the family. Do they really believe that this is an accurate statement:"It is our opinion that the evidence against Wai Phyo and Zaw Lin is absolutely overwhelming. They raped to satisfy their selfish desires and murdered to cover up that fact. They have shown no remorse during the trial."
Two Burmese men sentenced to death for killing British tourists in Thailand
Notice how the verdict was announced on Xmas Eve when people are celebrating and not paying much attention to the news.BANGKOK, Dec. 24 (UPI) -- Two Burmese men were found guilty and were sentenced to death on Thursday for killing two British tourists who were visiting Thailand.
Zaw Lin and Wai Phyo, migrant workers from Myanmar working at a bar in Thailand, were convicted in the September 2014 killings of Hannah Witheridge, 23, who was also raped, and David Miller, 24. The victim's bodies were found on a Koh Tao island beach.
Lin and Phyo will appeal. They retracted their initial confessions, stating police tortured them. The investigation was criticized after several procedural failings were brought to light, such as how local police failed to seal off a crime scene and also failed to test Witheridge's clothes or the alleged murder weapon for DNA.
But prosecutors said DNA evidence collected from cigarette butts, a condom and the bodies of the victims pointed to Lin and Phyo as the perpetrators.

The two Myanmar nationals claimed that during their interrogation police tortured them including by stripping, beating, kicking and threats of electric shocks to extract “confessions”. The presiding judge dismissed the allegations, stating that there was no evidence that torture took place, without providing any further information.
“Thai authorities must ensure that any alleged confession or other statement obtained as a result of torture is not admitted as evidence in court in any retrial of the case, unless against those accused of torture to prove that the statement has been taken. This requires an independent investigation, which the police should certainly not be in charge of,” said Champa Patel, Amnesty International Director for Southeast Asia and the Pacific.
“The Thai police force has a long and disturbing track record of using torture and other forms of ill-treatment to extract ‘confessions’. This is far from an isolated case – the Thai authorities must start taking concrete steps to stamp out torture , not just paying lip service to doing so.

So what do you reckon Phucket? Guilty or not guilty?
I can't be bothered to re read it all again, although I know I probably should. Is it worth the read?
One thing that comes up in the posts on here is that they seem to be relying on DNA as the main evidence. Which is rather disheartening seeing as it is far too inaccurate to sentence people to death on.

knowing Koh Tao and what goes on there
not guilty
but they had to be found guilty to preserve tourism and show how effective the Thai police are ( yea, right)

Re: Two Burmese men sentenced to death for killing British tourists in Thailand
yep, from things what my friends who live in thailand have told me and words on the grapevine (how truly accurate the information is, i myself dont know) but i dont think they are guilty, i think they have been pressured into making a false confession because the case got so much media attention,
first thing i said when it came up on the news, i said to my friends back home, that now its all in the media, even if it was - it will never be a thai person that did the murder and someone else will get arrested for it, because they wont want Thailand to get a bad image, then not long after the Burmese people got arrested for it...
i dont know all the evidence and im not completely up to date about it myself, but im skeptical

Now the neighbours have got involved and aren't happy.
Myanmar army chief asks Thailand for death sentence review

"General Min Aung Hlaing, head of the country's influential military, has asked Thailand for a "review of the evidence" against the two men."
The incompetence of the Thai authorities is boundless. They must have really thought that everyone would believe them. Unfortunately for them, their long history of botched investigations is well documented.
