trump in Bangkok

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

trump in Bangkok

Post by phuketrichard »

In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

It's funny, but disturbing at the same time.
You can barely trust anything you see in the news as it is, but at least if you see a politician making a speech on tv you can be pretty sure it happened.
With tech like this out there and getting more sophisticated, I feel like it won't be long before the bullshit and disinformation is next level and it's impossible to distinguish what's real and what's not.

regarding disinformation and media manipulation; I'm afraid that horse bolted quite a while back; regardless of what one's perspective is

But these deepfake animated clips are easy enough to identify; much in the same way that photoshop images are easy to ID if you know what to look for; I could see many elderly folk being tricked into sending money to scam artists who contact them with deepfake video calls masquerading as their younger family members. Doubtless it's happened hundreds of times already

The fake clips might be easy to identify now, but with the speed at which AI etc is progressing, imagine how good they'll be in 5 or 10 years. It could be near impossible to tell real from fake.

And the media at the moment is pretty crap, they cherry-pick parts of what is said, they put their own bias and spin on it, but you can still go and watch the whole speech and decide for yourself what to believe. If the day comes when the speech might not even be real, then things could get crazy.

And think of the potential for false flag-type operations. The whole world saw Hamas attacking Israelis. Everyone has their own opinions around it, but pretty much nobody disputes what happened because we saw it live-streamed. Imagine if Hamas, Israel, or whoever decided to broadcast a very convincing fake attack to the world so they have an excuse to kick off WW3 or something.

It's getting way to crazy out there in E-land.

Soon as I find the right place to build my retirement compound/artist retreat, all my electronic stuff is going on a permanent vacation. Gonna live without it. Seems silly I know, but I really believe it can be done. At least I am gonna give it a shot.

Won't need physical government anymore. Just run it using AI. Might do a better job. Or...

There's a whole Terminator movie franchise that would disagree with you on that

I would be worried about AI, if it weren't for the expanding global war, and Sixth Extinction Event.
