Tourist visa holders denied entry to Thailand, left stranded

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

Some friends just now visiting from Kampot said the Government offices there had one expat working for them go and compile a list of foreigners living in Kampot (he got about 100 or so on it seems), they then went door to door on them giving them 48 hours to go and register for a work permit.

It does seem like there are some crackdowns on that starting to pop up... and it's certainly something to watch.

Is the 48 hours up? What's the outcome?

Not actually sure, I think a number of them paid the money to get one... while others are still dragging it out and fighting it/etc.

One of the big arguments is that everyone paying for $270 (ish) extensions (they managed to get an english version of the law regarding them) has actually been paying for work permits as well... but just not getting them. The actual price of the visa is only $170... the other $100 is for the work permit. So they're fighting it on the basis that they HAVE paid for them, but not received them.

LoL, that's what they all should be doing. Likely NOTHING will happen to them.

People paying for them and then not receiving them? Priceless! !
