Raid at tiger temple

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

Raid at tiger temple

Post by kiwiincambodia »

Just caught the end of a news report saying the police raided that famous tiger temple and confiscated all the animals.

Has anyone heard anything about this?

That's the one.

Wow, I wonder what prompted that. That place was a gold mine with a lot being spent there and in the surrounding area.

The Army had its sights on that Temple for a long time.

What worries me is what will happen to the 140 Tigers? Will they quietly disappear and male their way to Vietnam/China.

its a good thing,

to erect a sign outside Wat Pa Luang Ta Maha Bua, known as the Tiger Temple, to prohibit visitors from entering the temple in Sai Yok district to ensure their safety.

After they went in
sad
KANCHANABURI — At least 40 dead tiger cubs were discovered this morning inside the controversial Tiger Temple.

Rows of cubs’ bodies that look freshly killed are lined up in photos, as reports of other disturbing discoveries of other parts of animals, including some protected species, are made.

Tiger Temple to sue wildlife officials

Lawyer representing the scandal-ridden Tiger Temple said Monday the Kanchanaburi temple intends to sue the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation (DNP) for seizing 147 tigers from its facility.

Saiyut Boonpeng said disciples and members of Wat Pa Luangta Bua Yannasampanno, better known as the Tiger Temple, along with the Luang Ta Maha Bua Foundation, were collecting documents and evidence dated back to 2001 when the DNP left seven tigers under the temporary care of the temple.

Mr Saiyut said temple authorities last week contacted “one of the country’s top lawyers”, who is deciding whether to pursue the lawsuit.

The suit would seek to reclaim the confiscated tigers, using the 2003 Sukhumvit Square beer bar demolition case as an example. Mr Saiyut said the razing of the square by hired thugs was similar to the moving of 147 tigers by the wildlife officials.
