The Police Raid that Never Happened.

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

The Police Raid that Never Happened.

Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

At 8pm on the evening of June 26 reporters received information that a group of ten crack officers of the Economic Crime Suppression Division were carrying out a raid on Thepprasit Market, South Pattaya, and seizing counterfeit goods.

On investigation reporters observed the team sweeping through the entire market and confiscating numerous items.

The unit’s leader, Police Lt Col Tienchai Lertmaneetaweesap, asked reporters for identification and then explained his team had been informed there were too many copyright violations and they had to clamp down.

They impounded clothes, bags, watches and shoes. In total over one-hundred items were seized to the value of one-million baht. The unit loaded it all into a van and drove away.

However, when reporters went to follow up the raid with Pol Lt Col Pawatchai Soodsakorn, the Sub Inspector who supervises the Thepprasit area, they were told there had been no instructions for the Economic Crime Suppression Division to be at Thepprasit Market and that no raid had been carried out.

Pattaya "Police" are complete nutters. Also, 1 million baht -- what a stupid figure! -- means 100 items averaged 10,000 baht each. LMAO. The Thepphrasit market doesn't sell anything of value, although it's worth visiting for some clothing. And the food stalls are good.

One way to tell police are carrying out an authentic raid is attendance by military minders.
