The "Big Event"

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

It would be interesting to be in Thailand when the news does finally come. Very few alive today will receive anything near that level of ostentatious display of genuine mourning. The place will virtually grind to a halt for several days if not weeks, as far a tourists are concerned.

"Most likely, it will be more depressing and chaotic than "interesting" with a fair amount of hysterics as well.

Probably months actually, and this will have a significantly negative effect on the entire economy as well, not just the tourism sector

At any rate, it may happen sooner than you think:

Audience with the King at throne hall today to be cancelled

i agree on months

the police do not like this government and they are trying to punish them by fucking up tourism.

the cops have had their crooked income streams curtailed so they are looking for new revenue sources and harassing farang.

not like is an understatement!!
they hate that the Army has stepped in and broken their rice bowl

BUT it still goes on. This went on for 10 minutes,

When he goes the country will shut down for weeks /months in Mourning while the ones in the back ground fight for control

Expect the army to "force" the Prince out of the country. All that's going on now ( with the princes ex and her family) is building up public support for when they do force him out.
In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

"they hate that the Army has stepped in and broken their rice bowl"

no kidding- so that is why they want to fuck up tourism to break everyone else's rice bowl.

will be a very instructive outcome if the bent cop mafia types can trump the army.

^ so the indicator that the Thai cop is open to persuasion is that he can't seem to find a blank fine form...

Interesting time for the Land-of-no-Smiles. People love the Princess, but the Prince has the Army. I don't know about his recent exploits, but I can remember when he (and I) were younger, he would show up at discos with his bully boys and clear the place out. (word was he also grabbed women off the street/dance floor and raped them, but that's just gossip.) I wonder if what happened to the current King's brother in 1946 will happen to the jerk prince? As in 1946 some General is going to have to step up and a couple of palace staff would take the blame. (would be good for the country.)

Love the Youtube video picture of the pool party at the Prince's place with his naked wife. After 33 years of traveling to Thailand, I'm sure glad I didn't settle down there.

When the inevitable happens I'll be quite content to observe from afar, as a non Thai with no affinity to the institution I can't see it as being anything but an awkward time to be around. I'm more fascinated I guess like most that have lived there a while at how long the public grieving process will hold out until the self interest of the powerful breaks out in public view.
