Thaksin & Yingluck to establish government in exile

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

If anything it shows the majority of Thais' want Thaksin and his whole clan OUT of politics.

Legitimacy on the international scene I mean. For the first coup, Taskin was schedule to loose the election, but outing him made it a martyr of a sort.

Same for his sister, whatever she does for the west they will be seens as the elected prime minister who was outed, not the one who was responsible for the rice shem

Quite a good interview on c-span when the last coup occur
http://www.c-span.org/video/?194020-5/m ... p-thailand

Once that happens Thailand has a chance to move forward . With the failed Rice scheme, even his power base in essan will not defend him.

Perharps but they are bound to ask for election, and what will happen with election? nobody know but looking at the past results I would say the red will win, which explain why the yellow did not want election.

Nobody wants the Farnag out of Thailand, ( they LOVE the tourist that comes for 4-10 days and drops $150/day) BUT they do want the bottom feeders gone ( hence reason for enforcement of the visa exempt policy)

On this I beg tout differ, the restriction on the visa where implemented to please the anti foreigner movement, the first one targeted were the bottom feeders as nobody will defend them, but makes no mistake fundamentally yellow or red do not like foreigner so much.
That really something that bother the economist analyst, being against foreigner is not a problem in itself but if you start to act as if you REALLY do not need them (like we have the knowledge and skill to do the job, we do not need foreign engineer manager and such) that become more problematic.

You really have a love/hate relationship with foreigner in asia, in Thailand due to the buying power, the culture of politeness and the fact that most foreigner living there do not speak the language you can easily be under the impression that only love is present. Fare from the truth, very fare from the truth,

"the restriction on the visa where implemented to please the anti foreigner movement"
there is NO restriction on visas, what there is is a implantation of the LAW concerning VISA EXEMPT entries

REAL tourist do not need 3 visa exempt entries and 90% of tourist come for less than 2 weeks, those that come longer get a visa in their own countries.

The ones using the visa exempt are either working illegally, ( many Koreans/Russians) or cant get their shit together to get the correct visa

One claim about this visa exempt crackdown is that Korea has kicked out over 6,000 thai's ( they get 90 day visa exempt into Korea and Koreans get 90 days visa exempt into Thailand) while Thailand has kicked out only a few so this is tit for tat.

I have lived here over 30 years an never met any thai (an i know from tuk tuk drivers to dept mayors an upper police) that said they don't like Foreigners being here.

Ho but they do like you being there, they just do not like you that all  .
Try to work in a Thai company in a situation were they can do without you and you will perceive this quite fast. It will not be anything obvious but it will be there.
As any 50 year old male with bearbelly and wearing short can be persuaded that he is "beautiful" and a person of interest for many year, you can also live a perfectly normal life ( western standard) in the country without realizing that the nationalist trend is very very strong.

One parallel a business owner give to me was it was like being a Saudi prince in the Europe around 1960. Meaning everyone is nice because you have money but fundamentally you are an arab (not so well perceived at the time).

Why on earth should a company employ a foreigner that can be easily replaced (and most likely for less money) by a local?

I have worked with foreigners in my own country and as a foreigner in many countries - the foreigners are always the first to be terminated once their knowledge has been absorbed by the locals. If you bring nothing of value to a company, don't expect to keep your job. This is hardly the domain of Thais.

Well in the west, usually the goal of hiring foreigner is to diversify the work force, have people who have different cultural background

Where did you work exactly? My experience is that unless there is big characters issue, the owner will terminates the one which is the less profitable. I know a factory own by westerner employing various nationality, in time of crisis they never consider the nationality but work performance and cost (here it is true that for some job employing a westerner make no sense). The westerner are out quite often as a matter of fact as they have a tendency of being unreliable.

If you bring nothing of value to a company, don't expect to keep your job. This is hardly the domain of Thais.

The point is if you want to work for a Thai company if your expect to be treated the same as the other (more or less what would happen if a Thai was working in the west) it will simply not work that ways.

Bring back is correct;
thais hire Farangs for the top level positions and than have a thai under them watching everything, 1 year or so down the line the Farang is let go. and the thai takes over at half the salary.

There is truly no reason now for any company in Thailand to be hiring Farangs, as there many thais qualified for most top positions. Its not like it was 10 years ago.

AS to my thai friends. They all accept me as i am ( an i do know the difference) not for the $$ i have ( or don't have) many of them were educated in the uK or america an i hold them as true friends same as my Farang friends.

Ho man this is precious . Fare from the truth but wildly held belief in political circle this is one of the big reason with the investor from U.S and Japan balk off.
Japanese company in Thailand have trouble with Thai employee they send for training at Japan university, but if the same guy work without Japanese supervision all the trouble magically vanish as he is the one evaluating his works.
Just out of curiosity, if you are Thai and have the knowledge to direct a company what not go to work abroad a earn two or three time more ?
It is like the military they thinks that they can manage the economy, last time was not so good and the economic sector doubt it will be different this round.

If you go in a Thai, school, center of formation or university what you will never see is students asking question.
It is very bad form, it means that the explanation of the teacher were not clear enough, you have to see this at a postdoctoral teaching level

That the Thai can do without foreigner is simply not true at the present time.

You both have it wrong, many thais study abroad an acquire a western education ( Thaksin, Abhisit are 2)
and return to their own country.

I am NOT talking abut Thai's educated in Thailand.

Why dont they go abroad an work? cause, unlike us Farangs, they prefer to be amongst their own.

Both of u really dont know thailand or thai people.

10 years ago it was true, westerners were desired for top positions in companies and the travel industry but not anymore, Plenty of western educated thais in Thailand.
