Thailands NEW METV

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

Applying for the multi entry visa you must provide...
Passport with 6 months validity
You can only apply for the visa in your home country (unless you have evidence of permanent residence in the country you are applying for the visa)
Current bank statements with proof of 200,000baht
Letter confirming employment
Proof of flights
Proof of accommodation
Cost of Visa = £90
This is NOT always correct,
some places u need show $8,000 ( USA,Cambodia, Singapore) for the past 6 months in ur bank book
some u can show much less ( Finland, Norway,Italy, Oz) as above with 6 month required.
In the us u can also show a valid visa to get it if ur in the states
some places it is as high as $200 ( US, Cambodia,Singapore)

The one everyone is waiting for is if Laos will require the same ( as they issued doubles before) This is where most expats traveled to for their visas.
and Bali where they issued a triple entry
Still no info form the Uk, France, Myanmar, Malaysia

India /Nepal where ur allowed to stay 90 days but u have to stay out 60 before u come back

It is what it is

from what i was reading online last night, it appears Laos are issuing 60 single entry tourist visas, and Multiple entry visas, but the mutiple entry visas are only being issued to Laos Nationals

Laos ( Vientiane and Savankhet ) have always been issuing double entries to anyone that applies, thats why everyone heads there,
so far no change an no announcement YET< from them

Everyone else that has posted the new rules specifies that the new METV replaces double an triple entries

I imagine in 12 days we will see

What do you mean in your bank book? You mean equivalent to $8k in a Thai book or from your own country?
Getting a letter of employment is gonna be a bitch to someone retired! :(

in ur own country;

why would a TOURIST applying for a tourist visa for Thailand have a Thai bank account?

So to make it simple u will need apply for the METV in ur own country ( so far USA, Cambodia, Singapore);

Be a national or permanent resident of said country ( or in the case of the us hold a valid visa, )
show $8,000 in YOUR bank over 6 months
Show ur holding a job
Show air tickets in and out
show hotel bookings

Have not read anything about those being retired and applying for this new metv

BUT if u were retired ( over 50) it is not hard to get a non o visa and a 1 year extension for Thailand
even easier if u have any kind of a pension

Truthfully, i have no idea who this new visa is aimed at
but it surely does fuck up anyone that was getting double and triple entries before

Surely, by now, everyone with a lick of sense realizes that Thailand's visa policies are now set with the idea of discouraging/criminalising any and all long-term stays.

They need to get ready to close the country. Farangs will soon no longer be welcome or needed. Asian tourists will still be allowed to come in group tours with a 15-day stamp, no extensions.

they can fuck right off.
xenophobic twerps are fixing to have a class war anyway.
Yes, indeed. Other than crossing over a few times from Laos haven't been to Thailand in about 5 1/2 years, ever since the morons occupied downtown and burnt down 35 buildings in Bangkok. The other group of morons of screwed the whole thing up. Both sides are equally to blame.

Anyway, that's all water under the bridge. Looking at the (very near) future: not that it matters much, but i would characterize it more as a regional rebellion against a centralized power rather than a class war (Lanna/issan vs Central/South). It's basically a lose/lose situation as it is clear that neither side knows how to manage the administration of a whole country.

All these "falangs" trying to hang on with their visa runs and extensions, dutifully submitting their documents, reporting every 90 days and begging to stay are fighting a losing battle. Once the lawlessness begins the people who merely get deported will be the lucky ones.
