Thailand’s secret story: the battle for a $37b royal estate

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

Thailand’s secret story: the battle for a $37b royal estate

Post by phuketrichard »

This is what its ALL ABOUT<
fuck democracy give me the MONEY<<<<<<< :beer3:

The army has a firm control now, rounding up everyone that has ever dealt with Thaksin and making sure they are moved to inactive posts or worse. He who is in control when the KIng passes will retain control for a while.

He s calling for elections MAYBE in a year
until then we are still under Martial law, curfew at mndnight-4 am
NO CNN/NO BBC

But the main reason Thailand’s crisis is so poorly understood is that a crucial part of the story is routinely left out. The 86-year-old King Bhumibol Adulyadej is frail and ailing, and an unacknowledged war over the royal succession is being waged by competing factions of the elite. At stake is control of the vast royal fortune, estimated at more than $37 billion. Whichever side wins the struggle to play kingmaker will potentially be able to dominate Thailand politically and economically for years to come. This is why the conflict is so bitter and vicious.

and the prince has left country.
The Crown Prince of Thailand has escaped the political turmoil in his own country and is staying in a five-star hotel in the Hampshire countryside.

Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn and his 30-strong royal entourage have taken over a wing of grade-II listed Tylney Hall in the village of Rotherwick, the Evening Standard reported.

The story seems to be going more mainstream. This article was in yesterday's Washington Post (not to be confused with the Bangkok Post)

Behind Thailand’s coup is a fight over the king and his successor. But it’s hush-hush.

^Let's just say that the "suicide" seemed very awkward.

Why do you think the Crown Prince is hiding in the UK ?
