Thailand Travel Restrictions and Info

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

So 1 ,2 resorts open and Patong, Karon, Kata, Bang Tao, Chalong all shut down cause no people.

wont work at all
Would be a lot more than 2 resorts. Luxury resorts with that much pampering don’t handle masses. So as a guess, 25 or so?

And yes, I’m getting crazier every day that the US Consulate in Phnom Penh is dragging it’s feet on getting visa interviews done and instead posting a steady stream of photos of all the publicity work it’s doing in Cambodia.

LOL: you dont know Phuket at all. There a couple of dozen 5 star resorts /spas with over 150 rooms each
in fact one whole area, ( laguna) has 7 properties with over 1,400 rooms....https://www.lagunaphuket.com/

As to the embassy,ur visa application is hardly a priority in these times, regardless how important it is to you.

90 day tourist visa starting soon;

Cabinet approves visas of up to 270 days for long-stay tourists
The Thai cabinet today approved in principle visas of up to 270 days for long-stay tourists as the government prepares to reopen to foreign visitors, especially from low-risk or no-risk countries, from as early as October 2020.

🎯🎯 The visitors have to:
✅✅ Agree to a 14-day quarantine
✅✅ Intend to stay in the country for at least 90 days
✅✅ Present proof of long-stay which could be the payment for a hotel reservation or the lease of a condominium room

The 90-day special tourist visa could be extended twice, for 90 days each time. The plan is to welcome 100-300 visitors a week, or up to 1,200 people a month
300/week is about 1 flight/week
How will they find an airlines willing to fly ?
will there be a quota for each country? Need to submit an application, "ah sorry sir, but the earliest we have a opening for you is Oct 2021"

14 days quarantine in Bangkok than free to go anywhere as LONG as you pre book and pre pay

How many are willing to commit to a 90 day stay in Thailand and pre pay for it?
......especially from low-risk or no-risk countries
Lets out 90% of westerners
Welcome back the Chinese

Desperation for sure as 1,200 tourist/ month vs an average of 3,00,000++
a huge cluster fuck

This is aimed for the many farangs that have homes here, wifes, family, etc, ( must be at least a 1,000 in Phuket alone) that have not yet been allowed back in..

YET still no provision for those holding retirement extensions and have not yet been allowed back in..

Not for ur average tourist

The many headed hydra of Thai immigration strikes again. Anyone who goes through this must be of strong will and desire. Let me add, and rich

Just noticed you have to arrive on a charter flight or private jet. I just don't see this working.

Last night I was talking to the first person I've personally come across who has been through the quarantine process in Thailand, interesting to listen to his experience. He lives in my condo block with his Thai wife and kid. He had to do 72 hours in quarantine at the European end while they ran the tests to clear him for flying. He was given a list of approved private hotels in Bangkok to choose from although he said the choice wasn't great as most were already full, he ended up paying 90,000 baht for his 14 day stay in what he admitted was a higher end hotel. He left the room for a grand total of 6 hours over the 14 days!!!! No alcohol was allowed and the food was all in hotel room service.

He wanted to take the opportunity to see the family for a month while there was a bit of downtime on his work contract, he's a private contractor in a specialist area of the motor industry. I asked him whether he would go through the process again and he said absolutely not. Besides the document/process hassle, overall cost and difficulty of strict isolation, the other main factor was the uncertainty on his future job prospects. As he said he may as well knuckle down now and make hay while the sun shines work wise while he can given economic uncertainty and hope that by mid to late next year the entry process requirements might have eased to a more normalised process.

The no booze for 14 days drew the biggest groan from the listeners and I doubt very much any of my snowbird friends would be able to cope with that lifestyle change. :D
Yes sir, I can boogie, I can boogie, boogie, boogie all night long.

Interesting report, CC.

Any idea why the hotel would not serve alcohol? That seems very odd considering how much overpriced alcohol contributes to a hotel's bottom line.

Anyway, what a horrible experience for the brave soul paying 90,000 baht to be imprisoned for two weeks.
