Thailand Travel Restrictions and Info

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

I am in the 2nd class
wither any significant amount of the 2019 35 million tourist would care or not..remains to be seen

The bars WONT stay closed, The gogo's wont stay closed, the clubs & discos wont stay closed, might not be open till end of year, but they will open

good news for phuket...
PHUKET: People arriving in Phuket from other places in Thailand do not have to observe a 14-day self-quarantine after arriving on the island, Dr Thanit Sermkaew, chief of the Phuket Provincial Health Office (PPHO), has confirmed.
“No self-quarantine is required for any people regardless of which province they come from,” Dr Thanit told The Phuket News today (June 9).
Now all we need is the airport to open and the international arrivals to come back ( id say by mid Oct)

Outside of the people wearing masks, the lines of people to get free food, the shuttered bars and having to sign in everywhere i go, its just a low season

Thailand is a survivor :beer3:
Maybe so, but SCMP seems to disagree:
Coronavirus turns Teflon Thailand’s wealth gap into a economic chasm (Actually, it is the 'lockdown', not the virus.)
"With both the lower and middle classes now facing ruin, ‘Teflon’ Thailand’s reputation for weathering financial crises is feeling the heat like never before."

Thailand is a survivor
Does a country ever really die or do they just get absorbed by another like Nepal?
SCMP seems to disagree
Bear in mind that the SCMP are now owned by Alibaba and so are sympathetic to PRC doctrine.

Are you currently in Thailand? I am, and in my opinion, it hasn't been this good since many years!
No, i left it at the end of March when all the fun places closed down. The current rhetoric does not suggest a return to normal any time soon. Without fun places Thailand has no edge over a whole lot of other countries.
Not sure what kind of "fun places" you miss, so it's kind of hard to comment on that. I'll go out on a limb and say there's probably a home delivery option available. 8)

Home delivery is available in most countries, there is no reason to fly thousands of miles for that.

Thai style go-go bars were a unique feature of Thailand.

Thailand may end curfew in fourth phase of easing lockdown
AseanPlus News
Wednesday, 10 Jun 2020 1:05 PM MYT

BANGKOK (The Nation/ANN): The government is considering ending the night curfew in the fourth phase of the easing of lockdown measures, a senior national security official said.

It would be tried for 15 days all over the country to survey the satisfaction of Thai citizens, National Security Council secretary-general General Somsak Rungsita said.

Currently curfew is imposed from 11pm to 4am.Somsak said that the fourth easing would likely allow boxing stadiums, entertainment venues and 12 other kinds of businesses to resume activities but their readiness is a factor that would need to be considered.

Regarding the reopening of international airports, he said the time was not right yet and international flights would continue to be barred until the end of this month.

He said there would be discussions on whether airports should open for international flights in July.

Yes, you're right. What are the options? Where are you going to start looking?

My point was simply that those are not easy questions to answer.
I believe Madagascar is underrated. I cannot be certain till i travel. From the information i have gathered there are pluses and minuses, the sum of which hopefully will make it a decent alternative to SEA countries. It looks different enough from Asia but not too different (it is not Africa, though geographically close, i would not go to Africa), hence adapting to life there should be bearable.

One ray of good news, if all goes well in the Friday meeting: Restaurants can serve booze from June 15. I see this being a test measure for full opening of bars and pubs, maybe July 1.

Headline: BARS, PUBS, SOAPY MASSAGES WON’T REOPEN IN ‘PHASE 4’
BANGKOK — Bars, pubs, beer houses, karaoke bars, erotic massage parlours, and children’s ball pits will not be allowed to reopen in the next phase of reopenings, the government said on Wednesday.

The Phase 4 reopening measure, slated for late June or early July, will not include those establishments because they are considered “high-risk” of spreading the coronavirus, according to Taweesin Visanuyothin, spokesman for the government’s COVID-19 crisis center.

“We have seen in Thailand that pubs, bars, and karaoke bars are risky areas,” Taweesin said, referring to the Thong Lor downtown party that spread the disease.

The spokesman said the following measures and their start date would be finalized at the crisis center’s Friday meeting. He said it could be as early as June 14 or 15 or even in early July.

Venues allowed to reopen include international schools and tutoring centers. International schools open first since they have earlier summer breaks. Schools under the jurisdiction of the state’s education ministry and will open later.

Government seminars and meetings, as well as food courts, hotels, and restaurants can fully open. Restaurants can also serve alcoholic beverages. However, salespeople promoting the sale of alcohol will not be allowed.

Sadly after a strong run of 3 weeks my sundowner suds consumption venue overlooking Jomtien beach fell victim to an invasion of the various branches of uniformed Gestapo that pervade the town these days, and it's only fruit shakes and fizzy drinks for now.

The game of cat and mouse continues as we hope for the 15th being the day we can visit our favourite restaurant for a plate of chips washed down with 10 pints of beer.
Yes sir, I can boogie, I can boogie, boogie, boogie all night long.
