Thailand Travel Restrictions and Info

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

Hundreds of ravenous wild monkeys terrorise Thai city in search of food after coronavirus drives tourists away

Image
Hundreds of hungry monkeys swarm across Thai street as 'rival gangs' fight over food after tourists who normally feed them stay away because of coronavirus
  • Monkeys normally well fed by tourists in city of Lopburi, central Thailand
But visitors have plummeted because of the coronavirus gripping the world
Skirmish between monkey began after one had a juicy banana
Monkeys part of 'rival gangs' - those from city and those from temples
The coronavirus has led to a large drop in tourists that might generally deliver the monkeys food

At first the primates are seen running independently as they appear to look for food.
But then the noise of their cries increases dramatically as dozens chase a single monkey which seems to have a banana.
They are seen jumping on it and others as they fight over the food.
Even locals who are used to seeing the monkeys were shocked by their ferocity.

That looks incredibly dangerous if you happen to be walking down the road eating a sandwich, or worse, a banana. The authorities better start feeding them soon or they might start heling themselves at fruit stalls and markets...

Thailand designates 11 destinations as ‘high risk’, imposes travel restrictions

“All the medical expenses incurred will be borne by the individuals themselves.”

Thailand’s Public Health Ministry has now designated 9 countries and 2 Chinese territories as high risk areas for the Covid-19 virus. He announced that visitors to Thailand from these destination are now subject to 14 day home quarantine and will have to adhere to strict health-related follow-ups.

The 11 locations, now designated by Thailand as “high risk” areas, are Japan, South Korea, Germany, China, Taiwan, France, Singapore, Italy and Iran, plus the two Chinese territories of Hong Kong and Macau.[

• Visitors and Thai citizens returning from the high risk areas will be subject to 14 days home quarantine, even if they are cleared of the disease, unless they have permission from health officials.

Yeah, those are nasty, vicious animals that carry all sorts of pathogens including Herpes B virus. If left alone in nature they aren't such an issue but when they get used to tourists feeding them they get too familiar and cheeky. I had a whole troupe of them that used to take afternoon naps on my roof on 102 15 years ago, because we had a big metal awning. We had a chain-link fence/barrier all over that stopped them most of the time. They were a pain in the ass when they busted through, they would just fuck up and break everything.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

Don't be too harsh. Both the UK and the USA have got the most incompetent governments I can remember for the last 50 years. The Looneys are taking over everywhere in the world sadly

AARGHHHHHHH
another reversal, why cant they talk about things BEFORE they make announcements?
BANGKOK — The government on Thursday withdrew its suspension of visa-on-arrivals less than 24 hours after they issued the order, citing the need for more research.

In an urgent meeting attended by PM Prayut Chan-o-cha, health minister Anutin Charnvirakul, and foreign affairs minister Don Pramudwinai, the Cabinet agreed that the travel restriction affecting 22 countries and territories must be held off until they can make more informed decision next week.

The U-turn came after government officials realized they cannot unilaterally cancel visa-on-arrivals and free-visa travels without consulting relevant parties.

Un-freakin-believable! There's more. The directors of THAI Airways and Suvarnabhumi Airport just resigned due to -- my words -- extreme incompetence of the government.

Thailand’s Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul is at it again making public disparaging and xenophobic comments about ‘white’ foreigners (farang). This time he’s warned his fellow Thais about the foreigners fleeing their own countries for the ‘safe haven’ of Thailand.

“Today I visited Chiang Mai and noticed that there are almost no Chinese tourists. All you see are ‘farang’. Not only that, but 90% of Thais are wearing masks. However, none of the farang are wearing masks This is the reason our country is being infected all around. We should be more careful of the farang than Asians.”

“At the moment it is winter in Europe and farang come to Thailand to hide from the disease. Many farang dress dirty and don’t shower. As hosts we have to be very careful.”

He should visit Phuket, where less than 10% (Thai's, tourists & Expats ) wear masks. :plus1:

Are there any flight restriction from Europe to Thailand in place or are there likely to be now that WHO has declared Europe the epicentre, not China anymore?
