Thailand Travel Restrictions and Info

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

This is official as it waspublished in the Royal Gazette on Thursday

Thailand announces compulsory quarantine for arrivals from six places

The government has defined four countries and two territories as dangerous zones and restrictions may follow to prevent the outbreak of coronavirus.

The announcement, dated Monday and published in the Royal Gazette on Thursday, classified South Korea, China, Macao, Hong Kong, Italy and Iran as "dangerous communicable disease areas".

The move came as the Thai postal service began disinfecting all packages received from overseas, although the World Health Organization has said it is safe to receive post from badly affected countries such as China.

The quarantine announcement, published in the official Royal Gazette on Thursday, classified South Korea, China, Macao, Hong Kong, Italy and Iran as “dangerous communicable disease areas”.

This means that all arrivals from these places, including those that transit through them, will have to provide the authorities with their address and travel plan and be self-quarantined for 14 days.

“Thais and foreigners who came from these places will have to go through self-quarantine for 14 days at home or in a hotel room, where they have to report themselves to the authorities every day or officials will come to check on them,” health ministry spokesman Rungrueng Kitphati told Reuters.

well, its still water on as usual
Mayor Chalermluck stressed that the municipality cancelling its public events did not mean there was a ban on celebrating Songkran in Patong.

“People still can enjoy their water play on Bangla Rd. We don’t have any authority to ban people playing with water during the festival. They can if they want to,’ she said.

Songkran in Pattaya CANCELLED - only religious activities permitted

the wet and wild week long celebrations that Pattaya is synonymous with during Songkran will not be happening this year.

On Friday, Pattaya’s mayor, Sonthaya Khunpluem, confirmed that almost all Songkran celebrations in the resort have been cancelled as part of measures aimed at containing COVID-19.

The most notable of the events cancelled is Wan Lai, which was due to take place on 18 & 19 April, and which typically attracts hundreds of thousands of revellers.

All activities planned for Pattaya Beach Road have also been cancelled, while officials say they will ask organisers of private events, such as the celebrations at Central Festival, to also cancel their event

and another sign that shows thailand really hasn't a clue...

Flip flop: Health Ministry now says no compulsory quarantine for visitors to Thailand
The Health Ministry on Friday said there will be no compulsory quarantine for people visiting Thailand from countries worst affected by the coronavirus outbreak

Friday’s announcement, made by Permanent Secretary Sukhum Kanchanapimai came less than 24 hours after the Health Ministry said a compulsory quarantine order was in place for anyone arriving from South Korea, China, Macao, Hong Kong, Italy and Iran.

Thursday’s announcement was published in the Government Gazette and listed the aforementioned countries and regions as "dangerous communicable disease areas".
However, by Friday afternoon, the official policy regarding compulsory quarantine appeared to have changed once more, with officials saying no compulsory quarantine order was in place.

wow, do they know something we should know? Like the virus can be passed via the bills?
One of Thailand's largest banks has announced they have shut all their in branch and foreign exchange booths immediately.
The surprise move from Kasikorn or K-Bank came in a directive issued from 5 pm yesterday and is because of the Covid-19 outbreak.
The bank said it was their "civic duty" to act on this "very important" issue.

There was no time limit put on the closure.

In addition all staff who had been working in their FX booths nationwide have been put on a 14 day stay-at-home quarantine.

In a letter they said that entities such as the health ministry, bank of Thailand, airports authority and duty free giant King Power had been informed of the decision.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) is requiring travellers from COVID-19 infected countries and territories to produce medical certificates prior to boarding their flights to Thailand to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus.
