Thailand Travel Restrictions and Info

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

Think about this, people are out of work, getting (maybe) $$ from their governments to get by, some of it will be in low interest, no interest loans but will need pay back.
once the virus is over an the xxx thousands will have died, life will go on.
BUT everyone that borrowed will now need to pay back. very very few will have excess$$ for a vacation.

End of tourism for at least a year or more? Fuck, an island like phuket depends on tourism, Siem Reap depends on tourism.
What happens when there is none for a year or more??
The thing is there will not be thousands who will have died. The virus has been spreading since November, Thailand recorded its first case in January same as Italy (but of course had it in undetected numbers much earlier) and there are not even dozens of deaths. The fact is there is already herd immunity, given that SEA countries have much younger population who simply sneeze and cough it off for a few days and go on. UV rays and wearing masks may help a bit or not, it’s irrelevant. Destruction of the economy will be complete, all for nothing.

TAT were originally forecasting annual tourist numbers of 38m I believe, last month they revised it to 33m. At that time I thought they were being too optimistic and said to myself 25m, now I reckon I'm being too optimistic!!!

Waiting to see the March numbers, shouldn't take long to compile.
Yes sir, I can boogie, I can boogie, boogie, boogie all night long.

Thai government screws sex workers over 5,000 baht stimulus
Thousands of Thai sex workers, estimated to be around 300,000, mostly out of work due to the Covid-19 coronavirus crisis, will receive no labour protection from the government. Empower Foundation, an organisation for the rights and opportunities for sex workers across Thailand, has sent a letter to the government pleading for help.
i'd say 300,000 is a low end figure.Must be 200,000 in pattaya alone :beer3:

Patong now under a 24 hour quarantine

glad i dont live there,Iam able to go all over the island if i choose, lovely now, no traffic at all :-)
A notice from Patong municipality is urging Patong’s residents to stay at home and not venture out of doors, including the Soi Bangla entertainment area, which has become the hotbed of Covid-19 coronavirus in the island province of Phuket. The announcement, on government letterhead, says citizens who need food and water can contact authorities for delivery.

The notixe, seen below, mentions the authority granted by the Health ministry to Phuket officials, and strongly urges residents to stay in their homes, saying that if they need necessities for “life or well being” to call authorities on 076 342 079, or the Phuket Ministry of Education on 076 342 087.

not as bad as 1st reported in Patong
PHUKET: Patong Municipality’s COVID-19 street cleanse and door-to-door house check is in full swing, with trucks dousing the main streets with disinfectant and teams of officers walking from house to house to check the occupants for any signs of the disease.

The Post Office and other main offices have also undergone a thorough cleanse, and all branches in Patong of 7-Eleven, Family Mart, ‘Mini’ Big C and SuperCheap stores as well as Makro and the Central Food Hall are now closed from 7pm to 5am each night until April 30 to help prevent the spread of the virus.

Here's march's airport arrivals

From number one decades ago, to shutting down, its been in free fall for years

Thai Airways goes into hibernation until end of May
After a decade of financial struggles and corporate upheaval, Thailand’s national flag carrier, Thai Airways, with a previous reputation as one of Asia’s premier airlines, is ceasing all flights for a period of at least two months, due to the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic. The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand has now allowed the suspension of all domestic and international flights.

So
Air asia has ceased flying all routes until April 25th,( april 30th domestic)
Bangkok air has ceased international but still flying some domestic
Thai smile still flying a few domestic
Nok still flying domestic but some international routes cancelled
Thai Lion air ceases all flights until April 30th

Phuket airport shuts down april10th
