Thailand Travel Restrictions and Info

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

^^^ After just scrolling through your daily graphic posts (thanks, by the way), I'm not seeing any improvement with a steady 2000 to 3500 cases a day. The 41 deaths reported today is a new record.

The daily positive spin by junta mouthpieces, including vaccine clinics and promises of more vaccines on the way, can't cover up the dire condition of Thailand health delivery and communications. Cops are still raiding clubs, gambling dens, condo and sex parties filled mostly with Thais who feel somehow immune to infection spread.

They lead one to believe the early numbers were way off and undercounted because of a lack of testing.

I think Thailand will be on many countries' red lists for some time to come as the amateurs running the kingdom struggle to do anything right.

Another fresh statement today by Anutin says absolutely nothing, as usual:
Speaking after meeting with company representatives on Tuesday, the deputy prime minister said that AstraZeneca had given him updated information and the discussion had been very positive.

PS: Looks like designated vaccine hospital Vimut has closed registration process, reports Richard Barrow.
Did anyone who filled out the registration form at Vimut Hospital actually get an appointment for a vaccination? Or were they just collecting your information? Anyway, looks like, for some reason, they have already closed registration. I’m not sure what that means. Do you?

interesting, by pass the government !! Has someone woken up and realize the government hasn't a clue what to do?

Chulabhorn Royal Academy given sweeping healthcare powers in late night announcement
In a late announcement on Wednesday in the Royal Gazette, the Chulabhorn Royal Academy was given powers to act unilaterally to secure vaccines and act in the public’s interest on issues concerning the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Chulabhorn Institute and the Royal Academy are scientific research institutes, named after and chaired by HRH Princess Chulabhorn.

The announcement, which was ambiguously worded, could be interpreted to say that the institute would now be able to bypass government red-tape and bring it vaccines as it sees fit.

Heres why
In October last year, the government chose the AstraZeneca vaccine as its main weapon against COVID-19. However, arming itself with AstraZeneca shots has proved difficult, and it now looks like the shortage will last longer than expected.

This week, top government figures stopped assuring the Thai public that millions of doses would be ready when mass vaccination starts in less than two weeks on June 7.

^^^ My head just keeps on spinning. Government spokesmen, health authorities, ministers, and COVID committees issue daily pronouncements, then retractions the next day.

I am hoping Richard Barrow can explain what it means for this academy to take over. But take over what? And, who ordered the Royal Gazette notification?

Spin spin spin spin . . . The poor Thai people hear promises and get nothing.

Meanwhile, Cambodia goes merrily along and has administered over 4 million doses, 24/100 people.

If you view original government policy as being directed towards the benefit of one particular individual/institution then the timing of this latest very direct and public intervention makes perfect sense. They who must be obeyed and protected against any criticism distancing themselves from original policy and firing the first shot at damage limitation. All will be revealed by June 7th but things have to be going really badly at that Siam Bioscience factory to have required this latest move, they must be shitting themselves at the growing potential for a widespread backlash from the struggling populace.

Here's the latest. That Royal Academy is sponsored by the king's sister. She's going to import another Chinese vaccine, Sinopharm. Woohoo! Not!
His Majesty the King's sister has approved coronavirus vaccine imports by an institution she sponsors, bypassing the government as it deals with surging infections and growing public anger over a slow and chaotic rollout.

The secretary-general of the Chulabhorn Royal Academy wrote on Facebook that the "alternative vaccines" would supplement the government campaign until it could meet the country's needs.

From The AP news May 19:

Headline: UAE to offer booster shot to recipients of Sinopharm vaccine
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — The United Arab Emirates announced Tuesday it will offer a third shot to recipients of the Chinese state-backed Sinopharm coronavirus vaccine six months after their initial two-dose regimen. The move appears to make the UAE the first country worldwide to formally introduce the booster.

The brief statement comes after some residents in the UAE reported receiving a third shot amid concerns about an insufficient antibody response.

But I must take my hat off to the Prayut administration for reducing health care costs better than previous administrations especially that bad guy from AIS

This guy is so appreciative

It reads “ Last time era, one tablet 300
But prayut era, 3 tablet 100
So heartwarming and touching,
Want this to last long long”
