Thailand Travel Restrictions and Info

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

COVID-19 UPDATE FOR RESTAURANTS:
The Phuket Disease Control Office issued an announcement a few hours ago that all restaurants are to close their dining areas and do pickup and delivery only. This info is direct from my lawyer who has been keeping an eye on the situation for my company and all of the restaurants on the island.

This is his information, but please be conscious of his time if you contact him. He has done a lot of things for free to monitor the situation for everyone:

UN Secretary General and the WHO director publicly scolded Donald Trump for insinuating that the virus came from China and invoking racism, fear, and bigotry for doing so.

The China Communist Party is rapidly painting a picture that they are responsible for saving the world from the virus and will eventually demand that the world reward them for their noble actions.

This is turning into a major fuck up with long lines at phuket immigration

A marquee was set up in front of Phuket Immigration so foreigners could sit outside while waiting for officials to even receive their request to stay in Thailand longer instead of risking contracting the disease by having to leave the country.

Countries and territories that have been able to control Covid-19 were Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore, he said.

To keep the number of Covid-19 patients within the country's capacity to treat them, the increase in local cases must be limited to 20% daily. If this can be achieved, the number of infections would be only 24,269 by April 15, Dr Prasit added.

Dr Prasit estimated the Covid-19 outbreak would continue in Thailand for about nine months.

FYI

While that story is unfortunate, those people tried to do a visa run without actually being stamped in to Malaysia and just flying back to Thailand. (remained in Transit area) which is why they were denied in Thailand. Nothing to do with whether the met the medical/insurance requirements or not.

Couldn't enter Malaysia as Malaysia is closed so its THEIR FAULT!!!!

I wouldn't recommend the ones stuck at the airport to start coughing horribly....it might be the only way to force things.

Phuket semi closing down.I expect Pattaya to follow within a day or 2

PHUKET: All restaurants in Phuket are now takeaway only and some areas in shopping malls have been ordered to close under the latest order issued by Phuket Govenor Phakaphong Tavipatana.

The order is to prevent gatherings and to close or control areas of people movement, including shopping malls, main grocery stores and small shops in the building in the same area, the order said.

Shopping malls are to close, but supermarkets, pharmacies and small shops that sell daily essentials and small shops that sell takeaway food only are allowed to remain open.

All restaurants, bars and food outlets must sell takeaway food only, the order added.

Restaurants in hotels must serve hotel guests only.

Fresh markets and “walking street” markets are allowed to sell only fresh, dried and cooked foods to be consumed at another place, and allowed to sell daily essential consumer goods.
All seating areas in convenience stores, supermarkets and food shops must close.

Even without official imposed closure Pattaya's bars and massages are all closed last week as you can see on my posts so are many restaurants,

They closed because there's no business.

The Thai government has declared a national state of emergency, effective form Thursday for a month, in an intensified attempt to stem the spread of coronavirus.
The declaration is expected to be followed by the announcement of a curfew by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, who will now chair the Emergency Situation Committee.

The Prime Minister said that the virus situation now warrants the declaration of a state of emergency in the country, as he urged members of the public not panic and not to travel out of Bangkok.

He warned against the hoarding of food and essential items and said that the public may face road blocks during their travel.

The cabinet also announced several measures to help workers today, which will include a 5,000 baht/month handout for at least three months.

The decree would allow authorities to impose curfews, ban domestic travel and close any building without a warrant, and would give the government the ability to censor and shut down media if deemed necessary.

Proponents of the decree say it will help bring the situation under control, while critics fear the decree could be used to further the government’s power and limit individual rights.

If approved, the decree will be enacted from Thursday to April 30. A news conference is expected later this afternoon.
