Right, so Africans from certain countries have to do 14-days of quarantine, and everyone else visiting Thailand ONLY has to do 10-days quarantine. Sounds racist to me. There are Covid mutations all over Europe and South America right now. And how many tourists arrive in Thailand from Rwanda or Botswana ?
And also, 10 days quarantine is not going to attract western tourists anyway. What a headbanger of an idea.

Indeed, and when I first saw this before you posted, I was gonna say: a classic case of Thai xenophobia towards Africans. However, after I highlighted that on another thread, I upset a certain member's sensibilities who said it was a tired cliché so I refrained from doing so.

But never mind that, here's another example of how it's ingrained in their society. Never mind the other mutations around the world..including some in Brazil and India and the fact that some of the original Sth African mutation has spread beyond Africa. What a joke...

CC? do u have an inside contact with the ministry here in Thailand? How would you know what the criteria is for which countries are on the list, ( why only 11 countries in Africa an not all?) and as thai's xenophobia towards farangs, (as you constantly tell us), why were they not on the list? As surely their countries have more infections?

That's my philosophy Yong, I'm not going anywhere so I suppose eventually we'll be told when it's our turn and whether we're expected to get it privately, ( most likely ), or by public service, ( unlikely ). My friends got the Astra Zeneca first dose last week in Scotland and my mother last most, no adverse effects than an intial couple of days discomfort. We've survived this long so unless allowing the initial thousands into the country leads to an unexpected surge in infections in Phuket I'm pretty sure we'll survive until eventual inoculation.

people still need to do 14-day quarantine if they arrive from 1st April onwards. Please note, this is nothing to do with citizenship. It’s for anyone travelling to #Thailand from these countries.

Latest updates from the Royal Thai Embassy traveling to Thailand April 1, 2021 regarding the number of days of quarantine:
1. Unvaccinated people need to quarantine for at least 10 days and have 2 COVID-19 tests in Thailand.
2. Vaccinated people (with vaccine certificate) need to quarantine for at least 7 days and have 2 COVID-19 tests in Thailand.

The conditions set by the Thai authorities are as follows:
Need to show evidence of vaccination registered with the World Health Organization (WHO) and certified by the Ministry of Public Health, including:
✔ Pfizer Biotech
✔ AstraZeneca
✔ Covishield (Serum Institute of India)
✔ Sinovac
✔ Johnson & Johnson
Complete 2 vaccinations at least 14 days before departure
Show vaccine certificate
For the Sinopharm and Sputnik V vaccines, the Ministry of Public Health, Thailand has not yet announced, therefore people with these vaccines must remain in quarantine for at least 10 days

Before making any arrangements, please check with Thai embassy in your country.

Thought No 3 was the Cowshed vaccination, sounds better to me than the Sputnik V.

I don't pay too up much attention to the daily U-Turns and goalpost moving by the incompetent military junta, but I honestly didn't realise that even if you've had your 2 vaccinations and can show it, you STILL have to pay for enforced quarantine and further medical tests in Thailand. Expensive holiday.

Thai govt approves plans to re-open to foreign tourists

Thailand’s Cabinet on Tuesday formally approved plans to re-open the country to foreign tourists.
The planned gradual re-opening will see quarantine reduced for fully vaccinated tourists to Chiang Mai, Krabi, Pattaya, Phang Na, Koh Samui and Phuket from as early as next month.

Tourists who intend to visit the aforementioned destinations will still have to undergo quarantine but only for 7 days rather than the 14 days mandatory quarantine needed previously.

From 1 July, vaccinated tourists will be able to visit Phuket without the need to quarantine.

If the scheme in Phuket proves successful, quarantine will be scrapped in other popular tourist destinations throughout Thailand, namely Chiang Mai, Krabi, Pattaya, Phang Na and Koh Samui from 1 October.

Oh, I wish I could believe this. I'd really like to see the plan at least somewhat successful so that it spurs on Cambodia and Vietnam to catch up and open their borders wide enough so I can get in.

But the vaccination rate in Thailand is negligible. If they had injected 15% to 20% of the population already, then I'd be far more confident. The Thais have yet another plan but empty hands. Sadly.
