Thailand sold itself as a pardise during covid> NOBODY came LOL

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

Thailand sold itself as a pardise during covid> NOBODY came LOL

Post by phuketrichard »

Classical thai
It’s hard to imagine a more luxurious place to spend two weeks of quarantine than the Anantara Phuket Suites & Villas in Thailand, where visitors are pampered in private residences that can have their own pool and courtyard.

Yet more than three months after the resort and more than a hundred like it reopened to extended-stay travelers in an attempt to revive Thailand’s battered economy, foreign arrivals have failed to meet even rock-bottom expectations. Just 346 overseas visitors have entered the country on average each month on special visas since October, according to the Thailand Longstay Company, which helps facilitate the program. That’s well below the government’s target of about 1,200 and a tiny fraction of the more than 3 million who came before the pandemic.

Like i have repeatedly said
UNTIL 15 day quarantine on arrival is lifted.. * everywhere*

Tourism is on hold

Yep, I think everyone on the forum that commentated on that plan predicted it would fail due to the time & cost of quarantine, widespread closures and general vacant feel of the major tourist centres. The few that did it for the longer term must be regretting it somewhat now as we all did say there would be a lack of holiday options open, I doubt they expected the whole of January to be an internal travel and social/entertainment nightmare.

I watched a video from Koh Samui the other day, I think they might be the worst hit compared to Phuket & Pattaya.
Yes sir, I can boogie, I can boogie, boogie, boogie all night long.

I haven't heard a single person who has done quarantine say they have regretted it, they all seem very happy to be back in Thailand

I won't be returning to Thailand, until quarantine is removed, and flights are mask-free, whenever that will be. Hoping for Jan 2022 now

Understandable if you've been separated from your family or loved one or your permanent home. I suspect they are in the majority not tourists.

The three recent arrivals I've met separately, were all in the same category. It was worth it for the reasons you cite.

Side note: How mean-spirited is it that you cannot have a drink during the 14 day quarantine. The ASQ program is run like a correctional institute.

Just thinking of the reasons why they won't allow guys locked in a small hotel room 24hrs a day with little to do, to sit drinking every day :)

Yes, there are lots of reasons.

You are required to monitor your symptoms and send them your temperature twice a day. Drunk guys would not do that reliably. Probably trash the rooms too and try to get out or jump from the balcony.

There still seems to be a major lack of awareness that a significant number of countries around the world are currently open with no or limited restrictions and have been for months.

For example, a friend of mine who really wanted to return to SE Asia during the Fall/Winter is now in Mexico and heading down to Costa Rica. A lot of countries throughout the tropics seem to be accessible. As a result, a global competition has arisen and people who want to travel are naturally going to at least consider the countries without quarantine first.
