Thailand elections: Polls open with Thaksin's daughter as frontrunner
Re: Thailand elections: Polls open with Thaksin's daughter as frontrunner
An exciting election to watch. Since the senate gets equal say in who becomes PM and is wholly controlled by the military it will be interesting to see what kind of coalition will emerge.
My key takeaways;
- The Shinawatras remain a major force in Thai politics
- Institutional reform is on the table for the first time
- The army reserves all Senate seats for itself and an MP can only become Prime Minister with its approval
- The election was scheduled to coincide with Paetongtarn Shinawatra's due date in an attempt to disrupt her ability to campaign

Scarier than malaria.

Sounds like they have given it some thought already.Alex wrote: ↑Mon May 15, 2023 12:27 amThey did the same hours before the 2014 coup. Then circumstances changed 555.armchairlawyer wrote: ↑Sun May 14, 2023 8:09 pm The Army has already denied they will launch a coup.
Uninvited denials like that hardly inspire confidence.

Who needs a coup when you can get a court ruling to disqualify Move Forward on a technicality, as happened to its predecessor Future Forward in 2020?

Will be interesting to see what happens in the aftermath of this election. Current Mrs grumpy was most pleased with the results.
Please don't confuse my personality with my attitude. The former is me, the latter a reflection of you.

Its all good and people are happy but the reality
The Army will not go quietly into the night
Plus can you imagine, even if they accept defeat, the New PM has to go to the King for permission to rule<being that he ran on the platform to curtail the monarchy>
that wont go down well
And than if the Army does not accept the defeat, ( look next door at Myanmar)
there will be trouble, the locals want change
Interesting days/weeks ahead for sure
FYI:
Bad news for weed as both parties in the new collation are against it

In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

BANGKOK POST: The Election Commission is expected to rule on whether Move Forward Party (MFP) leader, Pita Limjaroenrat, was eligible to run in the election, due to his ownership of shares in a media company

IF they disqualify him, things could get messy
