Thai's not to become Covid19 Guinea Pigs

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

The Thai PM follows our beloved Leader in protecting his people to not fall into the global Vaccination Trap and become Guinea Pigs.

Yes, nothing says protecting the people more than ordering 200k doses of a vaccine with a 50.4% efficacy rate. For covid-19 that’s literally the same as a placebo.
Of course things might be different if you’re able to book out a whole hotel in Germany with plenty of “company”.
up to you...

Not true. Keeping 50% more people out of hospital compared to no vaccination seems worthwhile surely? Plus often the vaccine reduces the severity of the effects of the virus in the people who do still get infected.
Good link about this, written before it was known that some vaccines were theoretically up to 95% effective.

I have to respectfully disagree. During the period of yellow fever, there were worldwide experiments about which public health measure would best control the disease.

As soon as antibiotics became publicly available, all public health experiments stopped. The reason? They couldn’t let people die knowing there was something better.

The average Thai sure aren’t poor. And they aren’t stupid, either. Why would they want a vaccine with inferior results?

Plus the China vaccine is based on the yearly flu vaccine, with flu vaccine results. Mutations in the virus are more likely to render that style of vaccine ineffective.

Those are just my thoughts.

It's likely that people who start out with the Chinese vaccine are going to want to upgrade once the more effective options are available. There's no such thing as over-vaccination, right?

The comments were more or less trying to quell the growing fears of getting vaccinated. The language choice on the otherhand could have been executed better...

The big shots just need to figure out a plan to get peeps vaccinated n open up.. personally id avoid 50.4% efficacy amd stick with astra especially since they will be making them in thai.. why spend oodles on a vac thats not as effective unless there is table money involved ;-)

Hate to have to keep repeating the same thing in every thread, but this is wrong. The 50% rate only applied to “very mild” cases, and against “mild” or worse it was over 70%, and also not a single person in the trial receiving the vaccine died, which puts it an error bar away from 100% effective at preventing death.

Also I can’t even begin to get my head around how you calculate that 50% is the same as a placebo. I can only assume you’ve not understood what 50% actually means.

On top of all that, it was only one trial that returned 50%, where other countries’ trials of the same vaccine e returned numbers ranging from the high 60s to around 90%.

Please stop spreading misinformation.

It is all misinformation, all the time, good accurate information is valuable, valuable information is not freely disemminated by any media anywhere.

Oh, the information is in there, but some people seem insistent on skimming the headlines, ignoring anything in the article body that doesn’t line up with their worldview, and repeating nonsense all over the internet.
