(RIP) King Bhumibol Adulyadej - Rama IX (5 December 1927 - 13 October 2016)

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

The region will never be the same and tourism is gona go down hill in the kingdom too.
Definatly south east asia has lost alot of its appeal hence stick man bkk going home.
Many people find much more intetesting and less snobby and class/status/money obssessed culture of Thai.

Nice little tourist summary :

2003 ( Sars ) - 10.08
2004 ( Tsunami ) - 11.74
2009 ( Recession, Riots ) - 14.15
2010 ( Riots, Political Instability ) - 15.94
2011 ( Major Flooding ) - 19.23
2014 ( Demonstrations, Military Coup ) - 24.81
2015 - 29.88

50% of the 15m growth between 2009 and 2015 was Chinese tourists. Headline numbers will always grow as the Chinese travel more but the question has to be whether that is necessarily a good thing for Thailand given the demands on the infrastructure versus the amount the spend and how/where it is spent. They are certainly not growing the quality end of the market, but chasing the rush to the bottom with volume in my opinion

Lies, damn lies and statistics.

he is NOT the king,he is the Regent pro tempore

Chinese tourism accounts for about 28% of total.
BUT at least here in Phuket that does not stop the thai's building more and more 4- 5 star resorts,( which the Chinese do NOT stay at) Either the thai's, building these resorts, know something that we the common people dont or they really are like the Khmers and merely think HUGE and believe the golden egg will never go away

so far...it hasn't
