Shut up!
http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-36894212
It will be recalled that a foreigner who said (on the internet) that the Thai Navy was involved in people smuggling / trafficking was advised to flee the country pronto if he desired to stay alive

Re: Shut up!
It pissed me off that the Thais got upgraded in the human-trafficking stakes by the US recently, when it's patently obvious that they are still using slave labor in their fishing fleets.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

Re: Shut up!
Andy Hall's trial for defaming the Natural Fruit Co is still going on, concerning research that he did on migrant labour abuses in pineapple factories in 2012 for a Finnish NGO. He has been pursued by the company on various charges since 2013, and this latest trial started in May this year. The owner of the Natural Fruit Co is highly connected, and Hall risks 7 years prison.

he was acquitted last year.
he was acquitted last year.
anyone living in the region knows its ongoing and $$ is madeLast year, a court acquitted a Thai and an Australian journalist of similar charges after they had reprinted a news report alleging complicity between the Thai military and human traffickers.

Reprisals For Niece Who Exposed Torture By Military.
Following the arrest and release of a woman who publicly spoke out against the military for her family member who was tortured to death in the army, the evidence of difficulties that are faced by the families of torture victims are widely apparent, as outlined in a Human Rights Watch statement.
On 27 July 2016, Human Rights Watch (HRW) issued a statement saying that “Thai authorities should drop trumped-up criminal proceedings” against Naritsarawan Kaewnoppart, who has been arrested for publishing the details of her conscripted uncle, Private Wichian Puaksom, who was tortured to death in a military camp in 2011.http://pattayaone.net/pattaya-news/2286 ... -military/

Re: Shut up!
Andrew Drummond on the Thai military and the alleged torture and murder of Private Wichian Puaksom, uncle of Naritsarawan Kaewnoppart.
A FEW GOOD WOMEN
Thailand’s military is not traditionally good at handling the truth but then it does not need to be.
The military were never punished for the Tak Bai massacre* or for the massacre at Krue Se Mosque*. The army of course is used more against the people rather than an enemy.
However, in the case of Private Wichian Puaksom, 26, the army paid out some US$200,000 compensation. Was that an admittance of serious crimes? Apparently not.
An officer and nine other soldiers were involved in the following brutal treatment of him in 2011.
They forced him:
“to strip Wichian down to his underwear and drag him over a rough concrete surface before repeatedly kicking and beating him for several hours. Soldiers then put salt in Wichian’s wounds to increase the pain. They wrapped his body with white cloth, bound his hands, read him funeral rites, and forced him to sit on ice. They then beat Wichian with bamboo rods, kicked him, and stomped on his chest and his head.”
Despite his death from his injuries four days later, on June 5 Sub-lieutenant Om and the other nine soldiers only received military disciplinary punishment of 30 or fewer days in detention, but were never charged for murder or other serious offences...
