Russian Tourists Visiting Thailand Down 70%

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

Another reason for the down turn is as the Current situation in Thailand is we are under military rule and as such
most travel insurance is not valid

Russians are leaving Phuket for 2 reason.
Visas are not easy anymore for them since the coup
their money is worth shit compared to a few months ago.

PS
we have plenty of Chinese, Europeans and Australians here and the hotels are filing up.
BUT it wont be as busy as last year BUT those hotels are going to make more $$ than last year as they are NOT allowed to rent umbrellas or chairs on the beach so the guests are hanging out more at the pool and eating in the various rests near the beach an at the hotels ( since all of the ones on the beach are gone)

so even with a 20% drop in arrivals the locals, ( those that were not doing business on the beach ) stand to make the same or more than last year

Too many Russians already here in Snooky. Recently heard rumors are that next month there is going to be a big Russian party on Ko Pous Island (the one with the Russian bridge to nowhere), and that charter flights from mother Russia to Snooky are going to start. Anyone heard these rumors?

On the subject of Ko Pous island (Snake Island.) For the past week there has been a lot of helicopter activity over the island everyday. What's with that?

Don't you live in Jomtien? That is Ruskie central. Half the business signs there are in Russian, as I recall.

Anyway, oil never stays cheap for very long. In a few months it will be back to $100 per barrel and it will be business as usual. Enjoy the somewhat-cheap gasoline while you can. Those who buy into Russian stocks or currency near the bottom will be very happy in a few years.
Yes and as you say Jomtien is popular with them, the beach probably.
Yes sir, I can boogie, I can boogie, boogie, boogie all night long.

If there was a drop in numbers due to the adverse political decision they could fill the void with the Chinese and those key headline numbers would look like business as usual. As it turns out it looks like they may be relying on them to take up the Russian slack.

I'll be interested to see if has an effect on the condo market as I can only assume it has been Russians that have been the main buyers. Pratumnak as you say Wacky, and also Naklua.

I was in the only good western style grocery store in Sihanoukville the other day and it was full of Russians. There is now a Russian restaurant on Hawaii beach that is almost all a Cambodian weekend/holiday beach. Looks like the Russians escaping Pattaya have found Snooky.

Looked up airlines that fly to Phnom Penh and you can book a Russian airline from Moscow to PP.

I think it no coincidence. Vodka prices in Russia have risen thirty percent, Russian tourist numbers down seventy percent.
