reccommend a hotel in Bangkok
I'm heading over to Bangkok in Feb to pick up some sports equipment that I can't get here, and am taking my significant other on her first overseas trip.
Last time I went, back in June, was to buy some specific items near Lumphini, so stayed in a quiet neighbourhood around there, and used booking.com. The room was fine for the money, but this time I'm looking for something a bit special- perhaps a nice view, close to a BTS stop, hopefully with a pool so I can get some training in. around $60/night would be ideal. Boutique hotel or larger place, but something with a bit of character rather than an international chain.
Anyone have any suggestions? We'll be there 3 nights.
Thanks!

I've stayed in 60+ hotels in BKK. IME, usually the closer you are to a BTS station, the more you have to pay. For 1800B you're not going to get anything "special' during high season, but a good solid hotel w/a pool & a gym won't be a problem. If you're willing to hike it a bit (or wait for the tuk tuk), in your price range I really like the Golden Tulip on 20, Solo2, Admiral Premier on 23, & Lohas Suites on 2. All the Citadines are a good deal & I like 23 and 11 the best. Use hotelscombined to find the best rate and maybe check this thread on Flyertalk: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/hotel-de ... o-etc.html

If you're booking this month, take a look at Travelocity. they've got a couple good codes out there if you download their mobile app: MOBILENOV30 - $30/100 OR MOBILENOV40 - $40/150. They're re-usable if you clear cookies & use a different e-mail & credit card. Try to get hotels as close to the minimum spends as possible to max the discount.

That's a great choice, Ilike the DG a lot, but it's out of the OP's price range a bit. If you want to spend DG type $$, I'd prefer Adelphi Grande on 41. Big pool, great gym, quiet soi, big rooms, 200m to BTS Phrom Phong & Emporium, & a Tops Supermarket on the corner of 41 & Suk: http://www.adelphigrande.com/en/

Re: reccommend a hotel in Bangkok
My lady and I stayed at the Swissotel Nai Lert when traveling through Bangkok a few weeks ago. We were impressed with the deal. It's a five star hotel surrounded with gardens, a park and a huge swimming pool. The room had just been renovated. She loved the bathtub, I wanted to buy the mattress. I found it online, joined their free membership program and booked a room via asiawebdirect. Showed an image of my membership card at check-in and got an upgrade. Also asked for free wifi and breakfast-done. For a total of $68 for two (including tax), a really good deal. However, this was during the low season...
Definitely shop around at different times of the week, different times of day as rates are constantly fluctuating. I waited and booked the day before-the hotel couldn't beat or match the price.
Hope that helps.

Good to hear the refurbed the SHNL. It had gotten a little dumpy the last time I stayed there a couple years ago. It was still worth what i paid for it - 1600B for the fantastic pool alone. The 1 downside - it's a bit of a walk to Ploenchit BTS.
