New 2hr ferry service to start between Hua Hin- Pattaya

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

Yea, so what's the deal with this 'so called' cleanup??

What would Pattaya be without the Girlie bars? If they think people aren't interested in them, then why are the Girlie bars still in business?? Surely if tourists weren't interested they would have so little custom, they would be forced to close down??

there's as much chance of Pattaya closing down all the bars and getting rid of the bar girls as a Khmer flying to the moon on their new airplane

WAY WAY to much money involved

Why would they want to ruin something that *works* anyhow? Thailand may be a beautiful country, but Pattaya will never be known as a beautiful spot, no matter how they clean it up. It is just an overpopulated and overtrafficked noisy beachtown. :stir:

the two resorts appeal to totally opposite type of tourists.
Hua Hin and Pattaya have one thing in common, they are world class golfing destinations and there is significant traffic between the two on that basis alone. All the Pattaya golf groups, of which there are many take big numbers to Hua Hin on a regular basis. The trouble is you need transport once you get there and I think taking your own transport down there might be more appealing for the sake of a relatively smooth days driving. There's enough nightlife there to enjoy and I know the golfers like a break from the more full on Pattaya scene.

Forgetting golf all the regulars I talk to at my condo pool have done a trip to Hua Hin at some stage during this year and they are a diverse bunch from various countries. Pattaya visitors and residents are a diverse mix these days and pigeon holing them as only interested in nightlife is a bit of a generalisation. Hua Hin couldn't handle the numbers Pattaya gets and undoubtedly a hardcore come for the nightlife alone but I think there could be a demand especially given the short journey time.

I believe the pricing has been set at 1,200 one way which wouldn't seem a dealbreaker when a taxi to Bangkok is 1,000 plus and a minibus from Swampy is 400 plus.

I personally wouldn't even consider it on safety grounds alone, but tourists continue to be blissfully unaware that stepping onto any form of maritime transport in Thailand is a leap of blind faith. Another tourist boat sank yesterday off Pattaya with 26 Indians ending up in the drink, fortunately none drowned this time.

Regardless if it fails or succeeds at least the Army cleared off all the boats illegally operating out of Bali Hai pier and started cleaning that area up and will hopefully turn it into a nice waterside area.

30 December 2016
Boat Sinks in North Pattaya with 23 Indian Tourists Saved

A passenger boat carrying 23 Indian tourists has sunk around 2 kilometers off the coast of North Pattaya. Luckily 2 speedboats were on hand to provide rescue to the tourists. The passengers were safely ferried back to dry land near the Dusit Hotel.

The boast sank near the small paradise Island of Koh Jun after it had developed a small leak. Water soon rushed in and it didn’t take very long at all until the boat had completely submerged.

No one was seriously injured in the accident, although many of the tourists had suffered some small cuts and bruises. Back on dry land, most were recovering well, although many were still in a state of shock.

After hearing news of the incident, the powers that be were quick to forbid any further travel by boat or speedboat until further notice.

High winds and heavy seas had hit the area, and only when things had calmed down, would transport resume back to normal.

Waves prevent debut launch of Pattaya-Hua Hin ferry service
2 January, 2017

More than 100 tourists were left stranded Sunday morning at a Pattaya pier when the maiden voyage of a ferry service to Hua Hin was called off due to big waves.

The tourists had already registered for what was to be a free opportunity to take the 100-minute trip on the Royal 1 ferry, but it was canceled at the last minute on its first day of the operation.

Local marine official Ekkaraj Kantaro cited the sudden appearance of 4-meter high waves.

The disappointed tourists were treated to a less impressive destination instead: Ko Lan.
