Losing Gambler Shoots 4 Dead, Then Gets Shot

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

Police major killed in crime-land shootout at gambling den

Slain officer not on duty, says city police chief
published : 4 Aug 2020 at 14:48

A police major was among three people shot dead at a gambling den in Yannawa district on Monday night by a losing gambler, who was in turn killed by another man now being hunted by police.

The city police chief said on Tuesday the slain officer was not on duty. He and everyone else in the room was there for the gambling.

He was probably shot and killed over a personal dispute, Bangkok police chief Pol Lt Gen Pakapong Pongpetra said.

One man shot dead Pol Maj Watthanaset Samniangprasert and two other people. The shooter was then himself shot dead by another man, who fled the premises, Pol Lt Gen Pakapong said.

One pistol, fired bullets and 14 spent shells were found at the scene. Investigators had not found a surveillance camera inside the room.

According to earlier media reports, the shooting occurred after a man of Chinese appearance drew a gun, claimed he was being cheated and demanded his money back.

Pol Maj Watthaset was an interrogation inspector at Samae Dam police station in Bang Bon district.

The den was operating on the ground floor of a four-storey commercial building surrounded by security cameras about 300 metres off Rama III Road in soi 66.

The premises had strong, opaque doors and access appeared heavily restricted. There were chairs and tables, and monitor screens on the walls.

Reports said several gunshots were fired about 10 o'clock on Monday night. Four people were killed - the police officer, another man and two women.

Pol Lt Gen Pakapong rushed to inspect the scene, but left without answering reporters' questions.

Cambodian Held in Gambling Raid in Pattaya:
21 Thais, foreigners held in Pattaya gambling bust
published : 9 Jan 2021 at 13:46
CHON BURI: Twenty-one people, 16 of whom were foreigners, were arrested during a raid on a condominium in Pattaya beach city in the early hours of Saturday.

A combined team of Pattaya police, tourist police and health officials jointly raided Espana Condominium & Resort on Jomtien Sai 2 in tambon Nong Prue of Bang Lamung district around 1am on Saturday.

They acted on information that illegal gambling was held there, said Pol Maj Gen Thiti Saengsawang, acting chief of Chon Buri police who led the raid.

The team found 21 people were gambling inside rooms No.517 and 518 on the fifth floor of the condominium. The 21 people apprehended were 14 Chinese, five Thais, a Singaporean and a Cambodian. Gambling tables, chips and decks of cards were seized.

An officer involved in the raid said the operation was part of a policy to contain re-emerging Covid-19.

All were held in police custody for legal action. An investigation was being extended to find those involved in running it.

An initial investigation found five of the Chinese overstayed their visas and the Cambodian had entered the country illegally. They were asked to take health tests for coronavirus infections.
