Khao San road thru the ages

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

Places do change. In Jakarta, Jalan Jaksa was the place to go. Not anymore unfortunately.

I went there in 98. Has it gone now? Where do the backpackers stay in Jakarta now?

Jalan Jaksa was the worst shithole backpacker area of SEA (in the 90`s) I ever visited: dark, smelly, dangerous. I wonder if anybody stayed more than one night.

A niece came to visit this summer and when we were in BKK for a few days we decided to check out KSR one night. We had a blast drinking and people watching, and had a pretty decent meal there. It sure has changed, but I feel that these days it's a good balance of nightlife, some interesting shops, and good people watching, with some reminders of the former backpacker scene. I still wish there was better public transport to that part of town, but personally I like what they did with the place.

Can somebody please post a video of Ko Sarn Road as well as Soi Rambuttri please.
I assume that Rambuttri isn't affected? It runs towards the river, and was more relaxed.
Ko Sarn was interesting to walk thru at night, but really busy.
I remember it being less crazy in the past, like 20 plus years ago, with everyone watching repeats of VHS movies, and episodes of Friends . Back then Thailand was less developed and still had that great vibe.
I'm asking for a video because I don't think a couple of photos convey enough of the reality.

Cheers.

I never got why anyone on holiday would want to watch videos of old episodes of Friends.

Well, in the past Thailand used to cater for mainly long term backpackers, on the so called " banana pancakes trail". This usually meant travelling a certain route and eating the famous banana pancake, baguettes, and after a day of rampant sightseeing or not, meeting up and watching whatever movie was playing , which was either Friends or Terminator or something similar.
This formula was repeated in many areas of SEAsia. to cater to that crowd.
