ISIS to Attack KhaoSanRd & Walking Street

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

ISIS to Attack KhaoSanRd & Walking Street

Post by Jamie_Lambo »

Seen lots of people talking about this the past day or 2, apparently ISIS have got into the country and are planning attacks on Khao San Road in BKK and Walking Street in Pattaya....

Given that it's pure fantasy, based on a supposed Russian intelligence report that was written prior to Russia stepping up its deal in Syria... it should have no effect on tourism. But as the Reddit Thailand groups shows, American tourists are often incredibly stupid. So who knows about the impact in the end?

America tourist stupid? Is this the pot calling the little black? Tourist don't have the lay of the land and are a stranger in a strange land, no matter what country they are from. BTW/ There seems to be a vastly bigger amount of British and Australians that are tourists, with Russian only being centered in a couple place.

I doubt even ISIS could screw up Thailand more than the present junta can, perhaps the military are scared of being shown up.

Well, the Ratchaprasong bombing story already seems to have disappeared. So, ISIS probably doesn't want to waste their time and resources on an attack that will be mis-investigated and blamed on several different other organisations, swept under the carpet and then conveniently forgotten.

Also, tourists, whatever their nationality, don't pay any attention to the news, so it would have just about zero effect on the travel industry. People will still show up and rave about the "street food" and "white sand beaches", etc.

I am no yank , but I would say the average American passport holder is smarter than the average Brit or Aussie. Only a small percent of yanks have passports compared to Britain and most I have met have degrees even if they come from online universities ...Chough GM......... :stir:

You appear to confuse education with intelligence. A degree is a piece of paper awarded against arbitrary criteria by a group of people who believe they are intelligent - even if, as in many cases, this is completely untrue. Thus it is possible to get a degree in total bollocks - like alternative health. (A subject in which degrees should only be awarded if the candidate can demonstrate a better return for their risable efforts than the placebo effect provides).

I would firmly support the removal of passports from many Aussies and Brits but both of those countries' nationals do appear to be more widely understanding of the world around them than the average American, graduate or not. As do Canadians and Kiwis. I think it's probably that the "we're number one" education system of America is unfit for providing context of a global environment.

I think the tourists are totally clued in with whats going on in the news. The fallout from tourists hearing no chairs on phukets beaches , even thou praised by locals, created quite an uproar from the tourists.
Tourism for 5 months after the last coup dropped double digets and only started to recover after 6 months.
