Hundreds of Westerners Living Rough On Streets of Thailand, Land of Smile

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

Do we have any pattaya dwellers here? What's the current pattaya-bound tourist demographic? Last I heard its was full-on russian/India/Middle Easterrens and Turks with MUCH fewer Germans, Brits and Americans than the old days. I imagine still quite a few Aussies. though, and much fewer Russians with the Ruble so weak the past year. Are the Chinese making their way to Pattaya yet? It's got to be only a matter of time before all those unmarried horny Chinese dudes start ditching the group tours and start hitting the girlie bars there. Mabye a wave of Iranians headed that way too soon with the reopening of trade and flowing oil incomes.

Phuket Richard admit it Cambodia is way way better than thailand for reasons like its easier to work, get long term visa, volunteer, cheaper beer , friendlier people, no martial law, no being called"farang ", Internet porn ,smoke ganja, start a business , cheaper transport, more interesting and original culture , better Western food , cheap cheeses, hotter younger women and nicer expats.
Let's look at this. It's no easier to work in Cambodia than Thailand unless you're a useless waste with no marketable skills - you'll also get paid less in Cambodia. Long-term visas are very easy in Thailand; they just cost more if you want to arrange them yourself. Who wants to volunteer? I want to get paid. Cheaper beer? Angkor isn't beer it's fizzy chemical piss. No martial law? Lol. That's exactly what Cambodia is under.

"Barang" not "farang" that letter makes all the difference right? Internet porn is easy to get in Thailand - do you not know how to Torrent? Smoke ganja, agreed though you can get ganja in Thailand and it's normally better quality than in Cambodia. Cheaper transport? No. Thailand wins there. A songtaew journey is cheap than a moto journey and doesn't involve clinging onto the back of a moto. Buses are as cheap in Thailand but are clean and pleasant. They have a rail service and internal flights (thanks to several low cost carriers) are much, much cheaper than in Cambodia.

Start a business? True for most but Americans can start a business easily and cheaply and own 100% of it in Thailand. More interesting and original culture? Lol. Cambodia's culture is fascinating but it's not original - it's just messed up. Thailand's culture is far more interesting thanks to being better documented and unmolested by 4 years of insanity. Better Western food? I once thought so but no. Really no.

Cheap cheese? Agreed. Hotter younger women? Oh no. 100% no. Thais are much better looking than Khmer. Though Khmer have Thais beat in the emotional maturity stakes. Nicer expats? Yup, always been a big fan of racist, red-necked, fuckwits which is Cambodia's main draw (the majority of posters here for example wouldn't date a woman who'd slept with a black guy).

I don't hate Cambodia and very much enjoyed living there but it's not better than Thailand (though Thailand is not better than Cambodia either - except for healthcare where it wins hands down). But... your advantages to living in Cambodia are spurious at best.

I was there last summer. Still a shit-load of Sexpats but yes, lots of Chinese and Vietnamese. Still plenty of Russians but from figures I read, their numbers were down 50% from the previous year.

The poll was "would you marry", not "would you date", you illiterate fuckwit. And so what? What the fuck do you care what some of us find acceptable from a potential wife's life choices. It's our preference. You don't hear the rest of us blathering on about your preference of choking on small, brown ladyboy cocks left right and center. You can "date" all the ladyboys you desire who were taking it asswise from 20 Nigerians last night and we won't care.

I was just thinking don't the Thais say farang to your face, whereas the Khmer just say it to each other? I certainly hear them saying barang a lot anyway.

Yeh well barang sounds kinda friendly where as farang sounds nasty and racist especially when they say it like 5 times and stare at you.

Come on let's not get rid of another poster. He is an active and interesting member I would say, as are yourself. We all get bored in Asia sometimes, unless you have a female screaming in your ear... Nothing wrong with sharing views. Although, as Samouth says, we do seem to be on the attack with each other more lately. I wonder why that is?

Cheap cheeses! Cheap cheeses! Are you telling me that in Thailand cheese costs even more than in the KOCW? Well, knock me down with a feather.

It will soon be reaching the price of gold in Asia. Do they accept cheese in pawn shops yet? No? then how about the money changers?
I'm fairly sure Lucky and Bayon stores all their money in cheese.

On a cheese note, can anybody explain to me why crap Australian cheddar is half the price in SNV that in PP? Those are some heavy transport charges. Must be the need for the Securicor vans that's putting the extra dollars on top.
Score 1 to SNV.
