HUGE increase in Thai visa fees from NZ

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. not sure if this is JUST for new Zealand or> But they are trying to kick start tourism here ( its working
by offering 30 day visa exempt for Chinese, 90 day visa exempt for Russians

Thaiconomics at work: you want more tourist income? You double the visa fees. Somebody has to make up for the huge loss of income due to the medical herbs now sold freely.
work is for people who cant find truffles

NZ citizens are still allowed for 30 days under the exemption/waiver scheme though at now fee? Most tourists don't need any longer.
There are also quite a few articles in the last day or so that immigration may be asking for proof of funds to the point of wanting to see cash. That might be targeted at their "poorer" ASEAN cousins though.
Maybe it's the new tactic to cut down on the queues at the airport, the PM apparently is making surprise inspections.
